Well, it was up until the northerners decided to kick off. Hopefully a mod can tidy them up :)

got to say I don't agree with any of that.

England is strong enough to stand up without the help of Europe and we certainly wouldn't be hindered by adopting stricter immigration policies. China and India would still do business with us because we put plenty of business their way too, its not just a one way street.

So you're saying if for instance Glen Johnson instead of Saurez had called Evra the "N" word that day it wouldn't have been racial abuse and Evra would'nt have taken offence?

I was using the no immigration repercussions as an extreme example. But England like any other country will not survive without outside links. Stricter deffo not but If England were to cut of immigration (my original point) those aren't outside the realms of possibility. No one Country is strong enough to be cut off. On a tangent Economic Sanctions are the way forward.

Yes because Glen Johnson is black himself therefore negating the derogatory element in the insult. Unless he is thick...then again he plays for liverpool. Evra can still take offence at being insulted but the racial element is dead. Plus i really doubt black people use that term as an insult to other black people. I certainly wouldn't call another Indian Paki as an insult.

Not saying you in particular but seen many pool fans sticking up for him and its because of that it's still going. Also read my posts and most of the others. We are having a far reaching debate about racism and the use of language and peoples interpretation of it. This thread pretty much left him behind bar a few comments. Trust Liverpool fans to only think about liverpool.

In terms of my logic - it is not the word that offends it is the way it is used. I said it before with the Paki example. Are you really saying you have never said or laughed at a prejudiced joke?? Does that mean you hate that group??? I am not denying Evra is twat but doesn't mean he has to be a "black" twat which is what Suarez made it about

Because he wasn't found guilty of racism?

Because the issue is now so dry it makes the Sahara look like a nice day out?

Because Suarez, Evra and their families (both of which have black members) want to move on?

We're all tired of the endless circular debates?

    All of the above?

Also, 'velachiperoo', you can't expect to have an adult and considered debate about tying your own shoelaces, let alone racism, when you sprinkle your replies with childish insults.

Apart from the one little dig at liverpool where are the childish insults? Even if i put them all over the shop what difference does it make if I make well reasoned points and retorts to everyone's posts. Or do you know stop making jokes now that you are grown up and serious

If you really want to do this:

I quoted two digs at Liverpool. Two. One, two.

If you put them 'all over the shop' it dilutes the seriousness of your argument. Besides, why bother? They're unnecessary and provocative.

'Or do you know stop making' - does not make sense.

    Grown ups use fullstops.

My 'jokes' were expressions used to lighten up a post about a tired, dreary and over-analysed issue.

    Anything else?

Two! My humble apologies sir, this treason will not go unpunished. Two in like 10 posts is hardly all over the shop. Your grammar is better than mine fair enough, it must always make you right. Your Jokes? Apologies must have missed them.

You mentioned them yourself whilst trying to insult me:

Although, yes, I'll admit this could mean something else as the sentence does lack coherence.

Regardless of all this, you haven't addressed anything I said in my original post, which is about the issue of the thread. I don't want to derail it further.

He "may" have, due to the fact that Johnson is mixed race and NOT black <ok>

That said it depends because there are some mixed race people who see themselves as white and some as black. Glen Johnson is a difficult example to use. Not all mixed race people see themselves as black and I wish people would stop assuming this.

Only a fool would find his sentence incoherent. Taking it in the context it was meant Vela did not suggest your post(s) had jokes in them, he simply asked a rhetorical question, whether or not you stop telling jokes simply because you have become an adult.

Further more this is not an English grammar lesson so I fail to see why you are trying to lecture anyone, when clearly you are no expert in the field yourself <doh>

I am African, but to me a Black Person using racial slurs to another Black Person should be taken the same ways as if a Non-Black Person did that to a Black Person. Racism is racism no matter who does it.

To the last 3 Liverpool fans ... thank you for proving the point quoted above so perfectly for me.

    I presume you mean this

Actually read my posts I state I don't think he is racist from one comment (which is racist). I say if the fans and Liverpool FC had not made such a fuss and moved on the world would be a better place (I would like to move on). Almost all of my posts are not about Suarez actually most of the posts on this thread are about racism in general and how it is interpreted. It was actually a very interesting debate about a serious issue (racism not Suarez) which sprung up from an old issue. At least it was till Liverpool fans joined in.

On a side note Black members in your family doesn't mean you are not a racist. So don't throw in a useless comment like that to try paint Suarez in a nice light. You guys still can't let it go :)

This post was created on the Arsenal forum because I was seeking the views of Arsenal fans. I appreciate that Liverpool fans will want input on this thread but really you can't expect it to find the atmosphere entirely friendly in a thread attacking the way Liverpool, both fans and management, have dealt with the issue. We've had 3 1/2 pages of pretty good discussion and it'd be a shame if it now descends purely into a slagging match.

What annoys me about the whole racism issue is that it's a one way street. We offend a black player, we get crucified, however if black fans racially abuse a white player, nothing happens, and it's just laughed off. I've grown to ignore the whole racism issue, until the bus runs both ways.

You can't expect them not to join in though, it's about our player at the end of the day. The problem with the Suarez incident is that it was blown out of proportion - it was, in reality, quite a minor use of (arguably) racially toned insults. Whilst personal insults of any sort should be the real issue, it was an incredibly sweet story for the media, opposing fans and pressure groups, who descend like vultures on any such occasion.

The problem most Liverpool fans have is that we are somehow branded (not by everyone of course) as racists by association, and as racists for supporting our player (which we will naturally be inclined to do). The issue is clearly complex, and there are three huge factors; the FA 'court' did not use evidence that would be suitable in an actual court, or indeed any real proof. It was Evra's word. Secondly, the word itself is, arguably, not racist - I don't want to go into that because, frankly, there is seemingly not a right or a wrong answer. Thirdly, for those who brand Suarez a racist, and there are many (especially online) it is hard to reconcile this 'racist' profile with Suarez's own personal life (black family, his own ethnicity, his friends, team-mates etc).

I like to think I'm a reasonable person - if the evidence was truly stacked against any Liverpool player, for a crime as simply stupid as racism, I'd not defend them or support them. Chelsea fans will probably face this problem in a much keener sense with Terry.

The interesting thing is, like you said, if someone's own ethnicity exempts them from being racist, the context and so on. My own personal opinion, as someone who has a scathing sense of humour and is little offended, I think the whole Suarez case was escalated out of all proportion. Of course, this would change in separate cases.

As a side not, the Liverpool board hasn't brought this issue up in quite a long time - I generally find only opposing fans dredge it up. It's very tiresome now, causing my pedantry.

Well then you can simply not visit our boards or click on the link or reply to it. It's hardly like we're demanding a response from Liverpool fans who are unable to recognise the severity of a white man, allegedly, kicking a black man because he is black.

Seeing as your an expert on the ethnicity and race of players why didn't you also point out that Suarez is of mixed race due to his 'black' paternal grandfather?
Racism in any form is disgusting and that includes White,Black or Mixed Race.

Your evasion of my point wont change the fact that if a referee or an assistant hears a 'black' player calling another 'black' player the "N" word they will get brought before the FA on a racism charge, therefore your point regarding about it being ok becomes invalid.

And before you say its what happens on the street,we're talking about during a football match on the field of play.
