As you have just updated the list - seems like a good time to add my vote to the keep Sean Dyche jury
39 users signed so far. If nothing else, the turnout shows that this forum is in very good health. Not everyone is going to agree with this statement (I believe some people have quietly declined to sign because of the first sentence, and I completely respect that), and several people don't come on the forums in June or July. So I'd guess that during the season we probably have a core of around 60 posters.
The difference between forums is interesting. Here there is very little doubt that Dyche should start next season. On a forum that I have recently started posting on it's about 50/50. It's not as though we can be accused of being happy clappers. A lot of the people who have signed this have laid into players, managers, owners, board members, local and national media and even the WST in recent times.
I personally think it is difficult to find a reason as to why Dyche should not be in charge next season. He lead us to the highest position for 5 years on a shoe string budget and in effectively only 2/3rds of a season (we all admit we had a shocking start). He has his plans in place and the team playing a style of football not seen in about 6/7yrs. Since Boothroyd we have been a hoofball team, but now that is starting to change. With a new pitch this can only improve. Give the man the season and i would bet my signed shirt* that we are not relegated. *DISCLAIMER: SIMPLY A FIGURE OF SPEECH, NOT INTENDED AS AN OFFER OR BET.
I'm not even going to compare Dyche's reign with Mackay or Rodgers anymore. Sean Dyche started his job with a worse squad than Graham Taylor inherited from Kenny Jackett, and I refuse to accept that as an opinion. He just did. Taking into account inflation in football over the last 15 years, the financial situation wasn't much different either. I won't continue with the comparison, but that is how highly I rate the job Sean did this season. On the other forum there are some valid points against Dyche. The main one being that Dyche would have to agree to any restrictions the Pozzos impose, and if he's not happy about that he may as well be sacked, take the compensation, and get another Championship job when the sack race begins. That would be nice for him, but I'm less bothered about a good manager's career prospects, more bothered about Watford having the best possible man for the job. Another argument is that the Pozzo's man might have a better CV for the specific role they have in mind, to which I say I'd soften my stance if they can show me one. I would never, ever judge someone solely by their nationality. But world class ex-player Gianfranco Zola failed at a higher level, and is considering dropping to a lower one in the hope that he will be good enough. Remind you of anyone? Despite the valid points, a few people are struggling the idea that there is a middle ground between being unconditional cheerleaders for the Pozzos, and wanting to actively sabotage the deal. For instance, one simply says "if they want Zola they want Zola." People with that sort of defeatist attitude should be physically forced to run L*t*n Town F**kball Club with Bassett as manager (they haven't been relegated in three years now, and that's painful to see). It's a reality of football that the money men make decisions, and it's beyond doubt that as money men go the Pozzos are good 'uns. But that doesn't mean that we have to happily accept each and every decision they make, or even wait for them to make a decision before expressing an opinion. It doesn't mean that if we have the audacity to speak out of turn, we must bend over and offer to let them tickle our gooches to show that are truly sorry for our defiance. The only power fans have is to collectively tell the owners what we believe they are doing right, and what we fear they are doing wrong. It's not about good and evil, as the WST seem to believe. It's more like "on these issues we encourage you to do what you do best, on this issue we urge you to think very, very carefully."
Ay, we think carefully, we know what is best. From a fans impartial view we know what's hurt the club and what's put us in a good position. They should listen and use it to point them (NEW OWNERS) on a bit of a better track. However, what do we know, we only suffer and enjoy it as fans... AY CARAY.................
I want SD to stay, which is why I've signed but if the Pozzos decide that they do want Zola, it's interesting the negativity about him compared to what my colleague who supports West Ham thinks as he's of the opinion that Zola was harshly treated when he was sacked.
But is that hindsight? If we had got relegated under BR, would we have said that Boothroyd was let go too soon? I think we probably would have.
