I've had enough of English summers, jobs drying up, David Cameron and N-Dubz so I'm sodding off to live in Brazil. Still love plenty about England but it's time to appreciate it from afar with an umbrella in my drink. To any City fans abroad can you let me know if city player will work abroad and if not how do you follow the team? Any way to listen/watch live matches and catch highlights? If we can get to the premier then I'll be able to watch live games over there but until then I needs my links:emoticon-0103-cool: cheers

    Hello Apples,
I live in Portugal where I get City I-Player for a monthly subscription of £4.26. However as I still have a UK bank I can pay with direct debit from this. Don't know how you will fare if you don't keep a UK bank account.
Also we can watch all live UK television with a 1.2 metre dish on the roof so get Match of the Day followed by Football League show. However unless you take your UK laptop with a dongle to connect back to UK, you will end up with a non UK IP address, which stops you watching BBC and ITV I-Players and live TV. Although there are softwares available such as "Expat Shield" which give you a temporary UK IP address to watch live TV and BBC I-Player.
Perhaps you'll get more useful advice from those living in Canada and Tampa Bay.
Also from my location it's relatively easy to get back for a couple of games, three or four times a season. For example, I'll be back for five days for the first two League home games.
Enjoy Brasil and enjoy learning the language. It's nominally the same as here in Portugal but as different as Deep southern states American English is to English English.

Hi apples. I use the player through the City site and it works well here in Canada. Good luck!

Thanks you both, looks like I'll be able to use City i-player, I'm already subscribed so all good! Not off til October so hoping to get down to a couple of home games before I go.
I'm starting Portuguese lessons in July Cider but I know what you mean I can already tell the different accents between Brasilian and Portuguese Portuguese. i went to Braga and Porto a couple of years back...nice country.

Keep saying I'm going to install expat shield but just haven't done it yet. Know several people who use it and like the service.

Invermere Mike; Take care with Expat shield. We used it apparently ok for several months but our PC developed a mother board failure which meant drastic surgery.
At the PC hospital, even though we thought we were well protected for virus etc, they found that the thing was riddled with viruses. We don't know if that was due to Expat or not but after repair and reloading everything, I tried Expat again.
But found that it "took over" the PC and interfered with emails, and generally proved to be a nuisance. So we've done without it for the last 4 months and as far as I can tell without any more problems.
If you do try it and it works alright, please let me know.

I tried shielding my IP address several times but was unsuccessful. I am always wary of some of these services.

I'm not sure if you can pick up US cable channels in Brazil but Fox Soccer Channel is pretty good. If you can get Fox Soccer Plus, they show a live Championship game each week and I was able to watch all the play off games which was good. They also show FA cup and some League cup games. Daily Sky Sports News shows are also available which is good to keep up with cricket.

    ESPN has Premiership... dull....

Enjoy Brazil - the economy is booming down there and is the envy of South America.

Thanks Tampa, I'm going to teach English out there, I know some people who do that and there's plenty of work. The World Cup and Olympics going on over next few years too. Very excited!!!!
