QPR announce pre-season tour of Malaysia and Indonesia Jun 22, 2012 10:48:00 AM By Eric Noveanto Mark Hughes' side, run by Malaysian Tony Fernandes, will face a series of friendly matches against the likes of Sabah XI, Kelantan FA and Persebaya Surabaya QPR have announced their 12-day Asian pre-season tour of South-East Asia's neighbouring countries Malaysia and Indonesia. The Hoops will start their visit with a trip to Malaysia, where they are scheduled to play against Sabah XI on July 13 and Kelantan FA on July 20, before continue their tour to Indonesia to face Persebaya Surabaya three days later. The details of the Asian tour has been confirmed by QPR Chief Executive Officer Philip Beard on the club's official site. "It is an honour for Queens Park Rangers to come and play in Malaysia and Indonesia next month," he said. "Everyone at the club is extremely excited by the tour, and we hope it allows as many of our fans as possible in Asia to watch the team in action. "We will be working closely with our main sponsors, Air Asia, and our other partners in the region to ensure we can deliver our best ever pre-season tour." Previously, Beard stated that Thailand would be one of the destinations as part of the tour but cancelled after failing to reach an agreement. "We had hoped to play a game in Bangkok as part of our pre-season schedule but were unable to agree acceptable terms. We sincerely hope to be play a game in Thailand in the very near future." Suggest Bangkok wouldn't allow Barton in, as his reputation is too sleazy for the city
No point - the Kelantan FA game clashes with a gig I'm playing at, so I doubt the punters would be happy.... It all points to the drive towards massive shirt sales - and seeing as most of the shirts are probably made there, they won't need flying across the clobe so it's better to the environment as well!
What no Harrow Borough? No more Troy Tempest signings or whatever his ****ing name is? Who remembers us all getting excited at a possible new Sir Les on the scene. How wrong can a group of people be
Think we will be spending quite a few of our pre-seasons in that part of the world over the coming years. Not fair !!!!!!!
on the other hand, theres a chance someone will stream it as it will probably be on asian TV but nothing can beat watching us play in our red and white 3rd kit playing a team in an arsenal kit. Then the other team changed into their away kit for the 3rd half. Typical italian planning.
This is an interesting site in English about football "there"... http://jakartacasual.blogspot.co.uk/ Rangers get a mention, any of you "bule gila" going? Can't say much for the place to be honest, once had the misfortune to be married to someone from where Rangers are playing: Surabaya.
Why do we only have 3 pre-season games? That is nowhere near enough surely? They are leaving it late to announce more.
Surabaya - isn't that the port for Jakarta? Right dump if so, got off a boat there a long time ago and was on a bus out in minutes. But the joint first prize for ****holes is shared by Medan in Sumatra and Seaham Harbour near Sunderland - the most depressing place on earth, at least in the early eighties when I went there. The Malaysia bit of this trip looks quite good. If Traore thought ACON was too hot, he won't enjoy the temperatures and humidity though.
if they are doing indonesia, I'm going to try and make a game. Haven't been there for a while, so if i can find the details i will try to make it. I'll post some pics if i do. just need to find the schedule. Anyone know where it is?
There are a few against non-leaguers already fixed, a major obstacle is there will be no friendlies in London during the Olympics so we'll be 'on the road' for the bulk of our build-up. Would have been nice to fix up a couple of friendlies against European opposition...
just gogled Gelora bung stadium ion indonesia..... Impressive to say the least....gonna try to make the game!
We're in Malaysia atm, but flying home on Jul 14th, so can't make it to the frendlies And you're right about the temperature and humidity, not been under 30 degrees since we got here a week ago, topping at 37 degrees. After hard work found a QPR jersey, must have been 4th or 5th shop I went to, all sold out, finally got one of right size.
Still time to arrange matches against St Austell under 10s and the Penzance Alcohol Abuse Rehabilitation team.
Too short notice for me. We should have had the tour next season so we had time to save. For me i love the local pre season games at smaller clubs. Normally great day out drinking.
QUOTE Tony Fernandes and club manager Mark Hughes are currently in South Korea to seal sponsorship deals before the new EPL season starts on Aug 18. Hughes said he was excited about the club’s Asia Tour which is a part of the build-up for next season was exciting. But fans of Premier League bad boy Joey Barton could be disappointed as Hughes has decided against having him on the tour. “He’s currently serving a 12-match suspension and it makes no sense to bring him. He’s unlikely to be in the travelling squad,” said Hughes. QPR chief executive officer Philip Beard said the Asia Tour was an important part of the team’s preparations for next season. “It won’t be just a PR trip for us. The matches that we play will help in our tune-up. “We will bring the first team for the tour,” said Beard, suggesting that the likes of new signing, England No. 2 goalkeeper Robert Green, and former Fulham striker Andrew Johnson will make the trip. I think thats a clear indication that Hughes doesnt want him. A player who is well thought of and important to the squad would have travelled.
There you go: It has now been confirmed that Mark Hughes’s side will play three friendly fixtures during the 12 day tour, with some minor changes to the original schedule previously advertised. The tour will now commence on Friday 13th July, with Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia being the first destination. Rangers will play a Sabah Select XI at the Likas Stadium on Tuesday 17th July, prior to flying to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia the following day. The R’s will then lock horns with Kelantan FC at Shah Alam Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on Friday 20th July. The final leg of the tour will see Rangers travel to Surabaya, Indonesia, where Hughes’s side will play Persebaya Surabaya at the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium on Monday 23rd July. The squad will arrive back in England on Wednesday 25th July. To see QPR in a_ction, fans can get their tickets from AirAsia RedTix. Log on to redtix.airasia.com for more information.
Lol! Surabaya is hundreds of miles east of Jakarta down the other end of Java. Main naval base of Indonesia. Never been to Sumatra but can imagine Medan is less than pleasant. Can't say I miss the place nor the terrible humidity you mention. Only place I ever went where it wasn't too hot was Puncak near Bogor which was cold and wet like Dartmoor on a bad day.
