Is anyone else concerned by the lack of "comings" and amount of "going(s)"..? I have every confidence in Hughton, but think we should be adding to our currently shrinking squad. Wilbraham, Drury and Zak gone, Wet Spam offering £5.5 million (albeit including appearances ect) for Holt, surely the remaining players will start thinking the same way to. I know we need to add the right people, but targets would have been identified by now... Thoughts?
I would imagine it's all a bit swan like at the moment Ratty - swimming serenely along on the surface but paddling along like a mad thing underneath. Hughton will have his targets and Mr Chester will be selecting others to look at ... once CH returns from his hols (if he is indeed having one - probably WHAO) I'm sure we'll see some activity.
Well its not good enough.. I want additions, and I want them now!! He's had a holiday, he managed Brum for a season... Buy, buy, buy.....!!!!!
give the bloke a chance! he's only just coming back from his holiday for goodness sake. he needs to assess what he has and what he needs first. we aren't absolutely desperate for new signings as it stands, we just need two or three incomings and to replace whoever goes out (drury/holt). its the middle of june and most players are either on holiday or representing their countries. have a little patience.
Slightly tongue-in-cheek, and this might sound like the most selfish post of all time BUT I've cancelled holidays due to work commitments in the past. The fact Hughton has buggered off on holiday has peeved me ever-so-slightly, not big-time, but I'd like to think that after being given the reigns of a Premier League club he would have given us priority. I appreciate there's a million and one reasons why he deserves his holiday, but just saying...
its two whole months till the season begins. there really is no rush, they aren't even in pre-season training for another two weeks
sorry, but that's a little ridiculous. we have taken priority! he is perfectly entitled to a holiday and he's even taken dvds of all the games we played last season, so his holiday will be spent 'working' anyway. the world doesn't revolve around football - he needs time with his family. he's got time to assess what he has.
Exactly, the 'goings' have been players who haven't been offered new contracts. We have to remember that the last two years have been unusual in that the transfer deals have been completed early, where as the trend, especially when a major tournament is on, is for transfers to happen in July when players contracts usually run out. We also need to remember that Hughton hasn't been in charge that long and needs to make an assessment of where he feels the squad needs strengthening.
Apparently according to Sky Sports News an Ibrahima Balde has been linked with a number of premier league clubs including Norwich, Sunderland, Reading and Villa. He plays for Osasuna, is a senegalese forward 6'2 and has been playing in Spain since 2008 when he joined Atheltico Madrid from a club in Argentina. He has played 22 times for Osasuna, starting 13 scoring 7 goals in the La liga.
Apparently there are several Premier League clubs also interested in signing that Pogrebnyak bloke who was on loan at Fulham last year. He's available on a free but I really, really, REALLY hope we aren't after him as I personally think he's dreadful, despite the scoring purple patch he went on when they first signed him. I'd be well chuffed if either Villa or Reading signed him though
Sorry lads Pogrgrobinyinininyyak is far too young for our squad. Over 35's only. You see its experience you need
If Holt really is going to West Ham then we are miles back from were we finished the season. Chris Hughton may well be a good manager but it is hard to say he is as tactically sound as Lambert and certainly won't be able to match his performance in the transfer market. In the meantime, right now if Tierney were to be injured again we would have no LB whatsoever, unless Simon Lappin is drafted back there, and the poor guy hasn't played his actual position (LM) in years now. I hate to say it but I think Grant Holt is irreplaceable. £5.5 million won't buy us a striker half as good as Holt or at least half as good as Holt playing for Norwich. So, yes I am worried by our lack of transfer activity.
Talking of which, i see Green has signed for "The Oops". Word of warning Oops fans, if you're sitting in one of the side stands, take cover when Green comes out to clear an attack.. He's got more slices than Mr Kipling... Decent keeper, and never been a money grabb...oh, hang on...
