After reading a few articles on the takeover it would seem that Bassini was a fairly successful owner, so much talk about him having no money, and Watford going into admin. I now here that Bassini put over 10 million into the club and that he never took a penny out. I have to say that it seems he was pretty impressive. Hopefully the new owners can put some serious money into watford though!
One day Laurence Bassini can do nothing right another nothing wrong. He has faults but I think in the future he will be judged as a misguided and strange man who put the club on a good foundation, before running away.
Sorry to say it, but I think he is a Walter Mitty character. I hoped all along that he might be the person for the club, but certainly over the past months have related him to people I have dealt with who turned out to not be what they wanted us to believe.
I'm inclined to agree. Mitty was famously under his wife's thumb...I wonder whose thumb Baz is under.
I agree Frenchie. I hoped that he would be the person to provide stability but any stability that there is now seems to be more a case of luck. SD has been amazing but he was employed because he was cheap. Baz seems to be a very poor businessman. He always seemed out of his depth - an impression created by his petulant behaviour. I have heard nothing to refute his stated love of WFC but you need more than that to be a successful chairman. I bet he was a pain to work with. One day it would be interesting to hear an objective account of what has been going on at the club for the past few years when the roar of the crowd has been drowned out by the sounds of egos clashing.
One thing is for certain. If Dyche had taken us down, or kept us up by the skin of our teeth, there would not even be a question of Bassini making a profit. It is the fact that Dyche achieved more than I believe Boothroyd, Mackay or even Rodgers could have under the same circumstances that is keeping things going. He is currently considering legal action against at least one propaganda outlet, so I'll choose my words carefully here. If Bassini is out of pocket (as he claims), and no deal has yet been done to sell the club (his words less than 24 hours ago), then in spite of the above, there is still a chance that he will lose money.
I always said I would judge Baz on what he did to the club. Looks like he achieved many things and did little harm, so for me he was "OK". I am certain he did not lose any money on this "project" and probably took a few quid in wages and expenses - but probably a lot less than some of our previous custodians.
Is there any truth in the rumour that Bassini hasn't ordered a new pitch - it is in fact a giant sandpit for his daughter to play in!!!!!!
