ASAMOAH Gyan believes his footballing fate will be resolved by the end of the month, when a permanent move to United Arab Emirates side Al Ain is likely to be concluded. The Sunderland striker joined the Middle East outfit on September last year and played the remainder of the season there, scoring 19 goals. Now, crunch time is coming in deciding where the 26-year-old’s long-term future lies with the striker saying he believes a decision will be made by the end of June. Cash-rich Al Ain want to sign him permanently and are confident they are in pole position to push the deal through soon. Sunderland have already decided they do not want the Ghanaian international – whose departure caused uproar among supporters and damaged Steve Bruce’s plans for last season – back at the Stadium of Light. But while they are aware the Al Ain offer is on the table, the Black Cats are still waiting to see whether other interested bidders come in with good offers for a player of undoubted skill and charisma who remains a national hero in his homeland. Turkish side Galatasaray head a shortlist of clubs on the continent that have expressed an interest, but so far no acceptable bids have been forthcoming. Sunderland paid Rennes close to £12m for his services in August 2010 – a fee that Bruce later admitted was inflated because the French side knew the Black Cats were desperately short of strike power in the wake of Fraizer Campbell’s cruciate ligament injury just before transfer deadline day. But a world record loan fee of £6m from Al Ain helped recoup a substantial chunk of Ellis Short’s outlay and if Al Ain succeed in making the move permanent, Sunderland will get the money back they originally paid for the African. Sunderland will wait to see whether tentative enquiries firm up into genuine offers over the next few weeks but with Al Ain’s position clear and their owners confident that the move will go ahead, Gyan is likely to be playing his football in the United Arab Emirates again next season. If that happens, then the striker himself will be more than happy. Back home in Ghana, he commented: “Al Ain have shown an interest in signing me permanently and I am also interested in staying. “I like the place and my family are also in love with the place.”
