Eric Cantona - there was alot of contenders who i could've chosen but i chose the king, we paid Leeds £1.5 million pounds in today's market, that's a bargain, he started our dominace and i'm grateful for all the things he done for us, one thing we should've done is won the champions league if it were'nt for the foreign rule but that's football, he has to be the best signing in the premier league ever. Andy Carroll - to me he's the worst signing to have been made in the premier league, he's worth at least £15 million pounds, even that, i can't get my head around it, i bet Newcastle were laughing their heads off when they got that amount of money and look what they have achieved, i know he's young and all that but i cvan't see him being a success at Liverpool.
Surely someone like Shevchenko who cost almost as much as Carroll and was a flop is a worse signing than someone who might turn out to be quite good.
Attilio Lombardo. The Bald Eagle lit up Selhurst Park with his silky skills on the flank or down the middle, scoring on his debut at Everton in the Premier League. The Italian international briefly took charge of team affairs with Thomas Brolin and remained loyal to the club after relegation from the top flight and remains one of the club's finest players. Tomas Brolin. A talented player who arrived at Palace with a waistline bigger than his reputation but retired from football after 13 matches with the Eagles due to a lack of motivation for the game.
Another 'football started in 1992' thread, eh? Why not just the best signing in the English top flight? In which case there are tons better than Eric C-ntona.
Difference is, Shevchenko was one of the best players in the world when we bought him therefore it was a reasonable deal when you take away hindsight. I honestly can't see Carroll ever being a 20+ goal a seaosn player.
Agreed partly, however we've seen what Torres can do with the correct service for Spain of late and with no Drogba to get in his way the stage is his.
Yeah not getting my hopes high though in terms of goals scored but to be fair to him we could always rely on him for a good performance most of the time last season. Looking forward to see how he copes with new signings and no Drog though!
You are all a mile off on the Premier Leagues worst ever signing. It is without doubt Ali Dia (George Weahs Cousin.lol) By Southampton in 1996.... Best is always going to be debated and everyone will have Rose tinted glasses...From my point of view its Sami Hyypia all the way... 200K for 10 years of brilliant service.
Of course, he was a fabulous player but he was never going to fit the way Chelsea played at the time. Carroll is still learning the game and I think he can score plenty in years to come but you have to play to his strengths which they didn't do at all last year.
Nah, I'll stay until one of you gives a valid reason why this thread should be based on signings made at a fairly arbitrary point of time notable only because it was when the joke of a 'Premier League' was created, in effect just a name change with a load more TV control and unfair financial doping involved. BEST SIGNING SINCE 1997 BEST SIGNING SINCE 1961 BEST SIGNING SINCE 1889 You wouldn't see any of those, so what's the point in this utter bullshit? Best signing ever? That's a thread I'll gladly participate in and put forward the British footblling legend that is John Charles. Or maybe even Johnny Giles or Gordon Strachan.
