See I don't think Rooney should start, he was stupid enough to get himself banned in the first place and just because he's 'Rooney' it shouldn't mean he gets an automatic start on his first game back especially after how well both Carroll and Welbeck played yesterday. But from what Roy said about Rooney yesterday he'll definitely start against Ukraine. It's disgusting in my eyes <grr>

  8. Anyone else think it is a little strange that all the players that have moved on from Villa and become part of the England setup are all struggle to live up to expectations...? Downing, Milner, Young and (usually) Barry...

Well I've just been listenin to talksport and they are talking about Johnson and they all appear to have come to the same conclusion as me.. Take ya Rose tinted specs of and look at it from an unbiased position.. All Johnson has to his game is that he is good going forward and is a terrible defender. The only reason he ends up sprinting back for last ditch blocks is due to be caught out of position.

  11. I agree with you that some Liverpool fans need to take their tinted specs off but I also believe you do as well pal <doh>

Johnson is not as bad as you are making out but nor is he as good as some Liverpool fans would have you believe <ok>

Odd how some have decided Johnson was Englands best player while others call him the worst player.

    Examples:

    BBC Match Ratings - Johnson 7/10, Terry 6/10, Lescott 6/10, Cole 6/10

    Independent match ratings - Johnson 7/10, Terry 6/10, Lescott 6/10, Cole 6/10

    Telegraph match ratings - Johnson 4/10, Terry 7/10, Lescott 6/10, Cole 7/10

Its not often people will have such differing views on a performance of a player.

  13. I think it depends what you want from your defender and your knowledge of the game. IMO, Johnson makes up for his errors so if your not too knowledgeable of the game then you would probably see that as superb play, a superb tackle, etc. More knowledgeable people will see that the situation should not have happened in the first place and Johnson was just making up for the initial error.

Hell, even us Liverpool fans can't agree when it comes to Johnson, how is it going to happen when he plays for England...?

  14. To be fair, the one Gerrard took was much worse, it was about fifteen to twenty feet above the bar <laugh>

  15. Well, when you put it like that I suppose Welbeck and Young were extremely poor, plus Rooney and Jones will make it a lot worse. We need to bring in Downing, Henderson and Kelly to play alongside the three stars of yesterday - Gerrard, Carroll and Johnson...<whistle>

At no point have I said young played well last night. I think he deserves his place in the next game as he has been England's main threat in the last few months leading to the tournament.

Johnson for me is a failed right midfielder. He isn't good enough to play right mid so some bright spark moved him to right back. He constantly gets pulled out of position, he doesn't pick the runners up, he tries to do too much on the ball. He is there first and foremost to be a defender which he fails to do. Yes he make some last ditch tackles but had he of been in The right place he would not of had too. Milner is a shadow of the player he can be as he looks too scared to do anything in case he has to cover for Johnson which he did at a number of set pieces.

I'm not slating him because he plays for your shower of a team, he simply isn't good enough at international level. He is ideal in a game against **** opposition as he doesn't have to defend much.

On the whole I thought we played well last night Inc gerrard and Carroll. In fact Carroll offered more defensibly than Johnson.

I'd like jones to get a run out as he is better at defending though by no means a finished article as yet. But at least it will mean the right mid has more confidence to push forward an do his job rather than cover a defender who is neither a midfielder or a defender.

    <ok>

Funny, that. BBC describe him as 'England's best defender on the night.'

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18462232

Whose judgement do I value more, BBC's or Talksport's (and yours)? That's a tough one...

    For the record, I wouldn't have given him a 7. A 6, maybe. 4 is ridiculous, though.

  19. Obsolutely! Redknapp at West Ham. Mourinho and Raneira at Chelsea. Rafa, Hodgson and Kenny at Liverpool. Sven, McClaren, Capello and Hodgson at England. All wrong since Glen clearly is not good enough to play right back <doh>

Some comments really do make you <laugh>

Moruinho didn't rate him that's why he sold him to Portsmouth.
