It was the wrong position for him. He should be on the left of a front 3 rather than a midfield 4. For the Ukraine game I'd go with Young, Rooney, Walcott as a front 3, with Gerrard, Parker, Milner in midfield. I don't like Milner, but he's much better in the middle.

Embarrassing performance from the Man Utd player. Terrible.

His position had nothing to do with the fact he missed numerous passes, had an awful first touch, missed a golden opportunity and providing nothing in the form of defence, in fact, he hindered us further when trying to defend. Awful individual performance from a player who would expect much more from himself.

4-3-3 please Hodgson. Let's get some positive football going.

    Young-----Rooney-----Walcott

    ----Milner--Parker--Gerrard----

    Cole--Terry--Lescott--Johnson

    ------------Hart------------

Welbeck and Chamberlain coming off the bench. Not too shabby!

Well he wouldn't need to defend so much if he played as a forward. Poor game from him, I agree, but we know he's good.

I'd drop Young and keep Welbeck.

Indeed. I expect him to put in a quality performance against Ukraine in a 4-3-3 formation, to redeem himself and make me proud.

Young was so so bad it was embarrassing. 90% of us would have put in a better shift tonight

I'm struggling to fit Rooney in the side.. I prefer England without him

    I'd go:

    Hart
    Johnson Terry Lescott Cole
    Walcott Parker Gerrard Chamberlain
    Carroll Welbeck

Possibly start with Milner because otherwise we don't really have an impact sub . Actually we'd have Young if he showed up. Not really sure where Rooney would fit

I'm struggling to think of a way to fit Walcott, Rooney and Welbeck into a decent formation (other than a 4-4-2, which I don't like), unless Rooney plays on the left of the formation I posted above?

Why? Rooney has been garbage at international level. England are clearly better without him statistically and look much more of a team with a better spirit

Think Rooney has to play upfront or off the striker if he plays. He's not disciplined enough to play a team role like LM or LW. Your formation would be 451 without the ball

because he is our best player, and it is difficult seeing us beating teams with real quality without someone of his attacking prowess.

Has he been to the Drogba school of diving? Perhaps he is trying to get selected for the Olympic team. In swimming!

Garbage was a bit strong. He hasn't been anywhere near as good as 90% of people make out. England have been better without him and that is a fact

Yeah, that's the point in it. Spain, France, Germany, Barcelona - all play that way. 4-3-3 in possession, 4-5-1 in defense. It's fluid.

Their games without him have largely been against poor opponents.
