Camelotâs Epsom triumph garnered 45.8% of the vote and Frankelâs Newbury return 44.7%. Camelotâs neck victory in the QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, over a trip that was an absolute minimum for a colt with his middle distance pedigree, won the remaining 9.5% of the vote. The next vote will open after Royal Ascot when the seven QIPCO British Champions Series races taking place next week will be narrowed down to a shortlist of three performances for the second public vote.
This is interesting. I would, perhaps hesitantly, put forward Bated Breath's temple stakes as a more pleasing performance, although that might be from a more personal note - Camelot and Frankel were more expected. It depends how you define performance (on sheer rating it would obviously be Frankel), but Bated Breath was both battling and classy, and gave me more pleasure to watch. Not to take away from Camelot and Frankel's respective phonomenal feats.
I actually thought Bated Breath was rather fortunate to win the temple stakes. Sole Power was stuck behind traffic, and got a run very late. When he did get a run though, he was gaining on Bated Breath all the way to the line, and was definately finishing the stronger.* I expect Sole Power to reverse the form in the Kings Stand. I think Bated Breath is a better 6f horse, possibly the best 6f horse currently in the UK. Im sure if there was no Black Caviar then he would be in the Diamond Jubilee instead, and would take some beating*
