Lets not let this thread get out of hand. A lot of posts are tongue in cheek and are not meant to upset anyone. So relax a bit guys.
As for where does the north start as far as I have been aware all my adult life it starts from the north midlands on wards. People from across the borders while a technically northerners by definition to me are Scottish. So the truth is I guess north is where you say it starts........so come on lets keep this a bit light hearted in the manner meant by the original poster......Cheers.......

One thing I would dearly love to see is the aurora borealis or Northern Lights.

Can they be seen from Aberdeen?

If you were high enough you should be able to see them and of course depending on light pollution. I was fortunate enough to see them when staying at gask near Crief. So cannot imagine that if you were in the right position you would not see them from Aberdeen. I am lead to believe they do not occur that often as we were in the company of a retired school teacher on that particular evening. It was the first time she had witnessed them despite living in Scotland all her life!!

I personally have never seen them, due to the light pollution you mention Beddy - I should add it to my bucket list !. There is a song called the Northern Lights of Old Aberdeen, which was incidently written by an English woman.
