Racing today comes from Salisbury, Lingfield, Brighton, Southwell and Roscommon.

Depending on who you want to listen to, either the best or second best rider in the hunt scene, goes to beautiful downtown Southwell, to claim the place for himself. And that man's name is Anthony Peter McCoy OBE. This might just be the day to follow the great man.

    SALISBURY.
    14:00 Spithead. Oddy.

    LINGFIELD.

    BRIGHTON.

    SOUTHWELL.
    19:40 Traditional Bob. Cyc. NR
    18:40 Run Along Boy. Red.

    ROSCOMMON.
    ABANDONED.

    A week til Royal Ascot.

Old Brandywell Boy is running today with the handicapper giving him more chances than Labour and the Tories get in government. He ran creditably last summer off much higher marks and he got hampered in running LTO apparantly. He will pop up off a mark like this sooner or later.

Christ we're all crippled by footy fever today or what?

One caught my eye in the first at Salisbury - the William Haggas colt Spithead (what a lovely name for a colt by the way) by Tiger Hill out of a 93 rated mare by Dr Devious, Cyclone Connie (who was trained by Spithead's owner's husband, Charles Cyzer - who retired in 2007 bemoaning the lack of prize money in the sport - nice article on him here). The Cyzer's string is much reduced from their halcyon days, in 2011 they had just 4 runs but managed a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd and this nicely bred colt looks one to keep an eye on. He will undoubtedly want further with time but I'm hopeful his stamina can help him go close today on the prevailing soft/heavy going.

If Princess is reading there are also 2 Haafhd colts in the race at silly prices <ok>

A quick look at the card from Southwell, due to cyc pointing out a runner he likes there, and i have stumbled across one that i quiet like the look of...

In the 18.40 - Run Along Boy makes what will be his second appearance over the jumps after a 3rd place debut at Towcester. Although it was a distant finish to the winner, Amuse Me, it was a good run form the Boy... So if the Boy can gain any momentum and improve for that last run then at 6/1 has a good chance...

    18.40 Southwell - Run Along Boy @ 6/1...<cheers>

After timing I know, but I just backed that 50/1 winner at Salisbury!

I was listening the the interview with the trainer, who used the magic words "he's by Haafhd", so decided to have a little £1 each way.

That'll pay for my petrol to Ascot next week :1980_boogie_down:

    Sorry Oddy, I missed that!

Just goes to show, when there's some give in the ground the Haafhd's go woosh!

He's got 3 more runners at Salisbury and 2 at Lingfield.

Corperal Maddox and Piscean must go in the notebook as both just had awful runs. I am not convinced Jamie on Piscean wanted to win today as gave up the plum draw in 3 to be last after 20 yards. I know the horse needs to have cover but it's not necessary to be last, and being so around Lingfield is not a good idea, gave the horse no chance and must be followed when backed next ( drifted today). Corperal Maddox finished like a train and was the winner with even just a little more luck in running. Both clearly on winning marks in this grade.
