Just heard on the news that children are to be taught times tables and spend more time on mental arithmetic and spelling and grammar. I find that amazing; I mean they haven't been doing this? What's even more amazing is that these "dramatic" measures are to be introduced in 2014. Yep 2014. When I was at school, regular mental arithmetic and spelling tests were common place and enjoyable. What happened?
i was in school more recently than some others on this forum but we were taught times tables and spelling the whole time, so i dont know when things went off the rails!
i left in 96 and it wasn't to bad but from friends bothers and sisters its seams to have gone right down hill
ron i am surprised you can remember school .we learnt the times table very early on in our school years it was compulsory way back then.
