Thats a good deal. But again, will we use the money and reinvest in the squad? I don't mind if we do, otherwise keep him.
More deserving players require the boot than Djourou, Squishy being a prime example. At least Djourou is a decent CB. I have a feeling he'll play better next season but if we do sell him, there are plenty of CBs we can purchase that are better that if we put a little more money in.
Agreed I'd still like to see us get another decent CB in. But if we're going to sell one, I'd much rather we showed Squishy the door
The fact that teams like Napoli want him shows that he has the talent. People like Vela,Denilson and co are proper dead wood. If he gets some game time, I have no doubts that Johan will become a top defender. He has all the qualities and just needs the experience now.
Sorry but I have to disagree with this, Johan has been known to switch off at key moments letting player run off him and score, yes he has some pace and is not bad against aerial threats, however he is too easily out-muscled by strikers and the physicality of the Premiership means he picks up a lot of knocks which means he cant get a decent run of games anyway. He may be better suited to a less physical and slower league like the Italian one, but I certainly don't believe he will be challenging the likes of Kos and Vermealen for a place in the team.
He had that one season when he played really well. The problem is he's been injured for large spells and seems to lack confidence. He generally plays well in the central position and the chances are, Verm may get injured again. We can't afford to lose Djourou unless we have solid CB backup. We need 4 quality CBs in my opinion, if we intend to do better next season. Our injury record is questionable, especially to our defensive players....
I think Djourou will ALWAYS switch off and this is his problem. He will never be reliable enough. A good enough squad CB but not reliable anough to be anything more. He has had 86 games for Arsenal and 32 international caps, he's not a nipper any more.
Yes but that's the problem Lazarus, he had one season where he was good however since then he has become totally unreliable. I actually think that he has not progressed and in fact has actually got backwards. He is 25 and should in the prime of his career but I never feel confident with his defending because he is always switching off.
I think we should give him another chance next season and see how he goes. It's not like we have players lined up in the transfer window. I guess i'm hoping it's just a dip in form and he'll be back to a good level again. The same goes for Ramsey, he should also be better come next season.....i hope again.....
I would keep Ramsey because he is a youngster and still has room to develop greatly, Djourou does not have that luxury and I dont think he will have too many chances to play anyway. I would rather see a youngster from the Academy be given a chance and selling Djourou. A lot of people say he is great for a 4th choice centrebac, but tell me how many 4th choice centrebacks get 6ok a week...in fact many first team defenders don't make that much money. I would sell personally because of the reasons mentioned here and the above posts I made
I wouldn't sell Djoure, though he gets on my nerves, and doesn't give me huge confidence, you won't find many 4th choice defenders that much better than him. And plus I fear if we do sell Djoure, we would stick with Squilachi as 4th choice! Djoure is a good back up defender when we play against most mid-table teams in the league, yes, he will struggle against top teams, but he'a a 4th back up, and unless things go really bad he won't be featuring against the top teams anyway.
