Oh dear. David Cameron and his wife, Samantha, left their eight-year-old daughter, Nancy, in a pub after having Sunday lunch, Downing Street has confirmed. She is reported to have spent a quarter of an hour at the Plough Inn at Cadsden, in Buckinghamshire, before Mr Cameron returned to collect her. Number 10 said the couple had been "distraught" when they realised Nancy was not with them. It said the incident had happened "a couple of months ago". The Camerons were at the pub, near the prime minister's country residence, Chequers, with Nancy and their other children Arthur, six, and 22-month-old Florence, as well as two other families. After leaving, Mr Cameron went home in one car with his bodyguards and thought Nancy was with his wife and their other children in another car. 'Nightmare' Mrs Cameron had assumed her elder daughter was with her father. The mistake was discovered when they got home. When the prime minister returned to collect Nancy he found her helping staff. Downing Street said no protection officers would face disciplinary action over the incident, adding that security arrangements were constantly under review. A spokesman said: "The prime minister and Samantha were distraught when they realised Nancy wasn't with them. "Thankfully when they phoned the pub she was there safe and well. The prime minister went down straight away to get her." Communities Secretary Eric Pickles, who is promoting a scheme to give English councils a financial incentive to deal with "troubled families", was asked on BBC Radio 5 live if he drew parallels between them and parents who inadvertently left their children in a pub. "We're definitely not talking about that - mainly for my job security," he replied. Mr Pickles was also asked about the incident during a BBC News Channel interview, saying: "I'm very glad that Nancy was missing for only 15 minutes. It could happen to anybody. It must be any family's nightmare."
Yep, if it had been Joe and Jane from a council estate in Sunderland or Newcastle they would have been bad irresponsible parents with social services at the door. I don't have a problem with what happened, these things can happen, its the reaction depending on who you are that's wrong.
If he couldnt give a **** about his own flesh and blood, what chance has the rest of us got? I just dont see how you can 'forget' your daughter ffs. Your coat, your gloves, phone, keys .......... yes but your daughter? Incredible.
I like the part "no protection officers would face disciplinary action". Damned right they won't, they weren't their kids! I'm with Cest' on this one, how do you forget your own kids? I've only got two, not three mind so it might get massively more complicated with an extra one. Surely someone does a head count, or they check with each other ffs? How big is the pub!
No doubt the newspaper headlines will be about Cameron doing another U-turn as soon as he found out that leaving a child behind would be unpopular..........
"in a brief statement to the commons, david cameron reiterated his belief that the external pressures on britain thanks to failings within the eurozone were responsible for causing everything bad that ever happened ever, including his briefly losing one of his children."
If you are a responsible parent you make sure all of your children are with you when you leave. What would have happened if they were abroad and this occurred.
To be fair I left my 5 year old son in a shop once. I thought he was with other half and other half thought he was with me when they went back to car with daughter, as she was misbehaving. I came out about 10 mins later got back to car and realised no boy to be seen. Panic does not describe it. Ran back to shop and son was playing quite happily with the toys. Phew!!
and that's a good point, its not a case of forgetting its assuming someone else has her and that someone assuming you had
ffs, if an average joe left their child unattended, they'd be called scum and bad parents, but all because it's the PM, the leader of our country, it;s considered a terrible occurrace, and accident!
