Just spotted this, don't know if its being mentioned and I can't see any Koren threads down the page so here goes. Reading vital 'understands' they are after our man http://www.reading.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=284337
i d say that if the money's right, and depending on Steve Bruce's chosen style of play and incumbents, he would be less of a loss than some other of our 'in-demand' players
Indeed, I'd like him to get an extension, he's packed in his international career to prolong his club, it should be with us
Well said bbb it hopefully will be with us, we need a goalkeeper and I'm glad Bruce was a defender as was Pearson so that and our defence should be addressed soon I reckon
Didnt we also refuff Middlesbrough recently....I don't thin anyone will be going anyway until Mr Bruce has decided on his game plans and were the players w have fit into it......maybe in a couple of weeks time we may see some movement but at the moment I wouldnt like to think Koren would be going anywhere...as always just speculation...but fun isn't it!
Reading are PL, Koren wants to play PL again, I reckon if the money is right he would want to go. personally I would prefer to build a team around him, we'll see how Bruce wants to play..
I reckon it depends how much budget Bruce has to play with. If we're offered £2m for a player over 30 in the last year of his contract when he can talk to clubs for free in 6 months and this money received could be reinvested in players then I would suggest logic says we sell.
Last season it was a case of if Koren didn't play,we didn't win. Give him a new contract and build the team around him.
2 mill I'd take, but the only pl clubs willing to pay that for a 31 yo championship player would be us about 3 years ago
Unless Steve Bruce has other plans for a midfield re-design, I expect he will be staying. We'll probably offer him a new deal to sweeten him up. Reading are PL, but they are newly promoted and are not a bigger club than Hull City. Our aim is to get up to the PL next year anyway.
Personal if we offered £1.5m+ I'd sell him. He's nearly 32 and doesn't fit into 4-4-2 that we are certain to play.
Problem with last season is that we adapted the team to fit him in. Then when he was injured we kept trying to fit someone into his position instead of reverting to 4-4-2. So hopefully if we keep him, and play him, then Bruce will have a plan B of 4-4-2 sat on the bench.
I'd hope we'd signalled enough intent of PL football to keep Koren around as part of that journey for the next year or so.
I'm hoping Bruce will want to take a look at Koren for himself before making any decision. He must know that he's one of the best attacking midfielders in this league so he shouldn't be sold on the cheap, replacing him will cost a fair few quid. I'm don't really buy into the fact he's knocking on either. He takes care of himself and apart from a couple of minor knocks/ pulls was fit all season. Just my opinion but it would possibly be a bit foolhardy on Bruces part to let our current player of the season leave. If a decent , and I mean decent, bid comes in then as we all know any player is for sale but I'd really like to think Koren will be pulling the strings for our assault on promotion next season.
If NPC teams come in for players we are more likely to say no, but PL, even newly promoted & that could change the players thinking. SB will sit down & look at players, then talk to them when they come back, it could be that RK see's Reading as his last shot at the PL & could come back requesting it himself.
Koren and Evans in centre midfield looked good at the Amex. ???? Rosenior Chester ????? Dudgeon Stewart Evans Koren ???? Fryatt Heskey would work for me..... I wonder who will replace Hobbs and also who would be a new winger? Fingers crossed Mannone is still an option (or will it be Gordon?).
