Must have felt terrible going back all those years ago and reliving what the people that had been there had gone through.

I've been twice mate and it is truly awful.
The worst bit for me was going into the chamber in Auchwitz (1) and seeing the holes in the roof where the Zyklon B was dropped. You then go on to see lots of used cannisters of the stuff in the museum.. chilling.

    Auschwitz, the meaning of pain
The why that I want you to die
    Slow death, immense decay
Showers that cleanse you of your life

    Forced in
    Like cattle
    You run
    Stripped of
    Your life's worth
Human mice, for the Angel of Death
Four hundred thousand more to die
    Angel of Death
Monarch to the kingdom of the dead

    Sadistic, surgeon of demise
    Sadist of the noblest blood

    Destroying, without mercy
    To benefit the Aryan race

    Surgery, with no anesthesia
Feel the knife pierce you intensely
    Inferior, no use to mankind
Strapped down screaming out to die
    Angel of Death
Monarch to the kingdom of the dead
    Infamous
    Butcher,
    Angel of Death

Pumped with fluid, inside your brain
Pressure in your skull begins pushing through your eyes
    Burning flesh, drips away
Test of heat burns your skin, your mind starts to boil
    Frigid cold, cracks your limbs
    How long can you last
    In this frozen water burial?
    Sewn together, joining heads
    Just a matter of time
    'Til you rip yourselves apart
    Millions laid out in their
    Crowded tombs
    Sickening ways to achieve
    The holocaust
    Seas of blood, bury life
Smell your death as it burns
    Deep inside of you
    Abacinate, eyes that bleed
    Praying for the end of
    Your wide awake nightmare
Wings of pain, reach out for you
His face of death staring down,
    Your blood running cold
    Injecting cells, dying eyes
    Feeding on the screams of
    The mutants he's creating
    Pathetic harmless victims
    Left to die
    Rancid Angel of Death
    Flying free

    Angel of Death
Monarch to the kingdom of the dead
    Infamous butcher,
    Angel of Death

    Angel of Death

Interesting lyrics, quite poetic. Took a while to realise they were reflective and critical of what happened rather than praising.

Yeah, that's why metal heads who like this sort of music are often described by ignorant people as ****ed up, depressed people who would eat your children. When really all it is, is poetry about a terrible event that's sung in an angry way with aggressive instrumentals, and people enjoy the music, and a lot of metal heads actually look at the lyrics and take in the meaning.

Slayer wrote a song about UNIT 731 about a place where people where tested on with chemicals and other scientific abominations. Again, they're not praising it, but they're just telling a story and turning it into an aggressive song.

    Pretty much the Japanese Auchwitz

I am the last of the dying insane
You would scream at the things I've done
Knowing that the dead still see
My blood it runs like mercury

Your last breath the sword comes down
She dies first speaking death to me
Philosophy, the vision, the view within
    Duty, science, abstract cruelty

    [Chorus:]
    What are your final thoughts?
Do you want to kill me or die in shame?
    From my point of view
    Justified action, the enemy burns

The fun of massacre in the brain
Bioweapons and I are the same
Look at their face, hatred in their blood
Pile up the dead, my humanity

X-rays burn all that you can see
Nobody knows what a body can stand
Skulls on fire yet mercy is worse
You seek only your pleasure in death

    [Chorus]

    Bacterial target, eyes exploding
    Melting flesh through your mind
    Become your madness insanity wins
    Infant's flesh on the walls
    Testing limits threshold of pain
    Ripping out teeth to observe
    I want blood

    [Lead: Hanneman]
    [Lead: King]

    [x4]
Knowing now the dead still see
My blood it runs like mercury

    Human brain experiment
    On prisoners open skull
    Vivisection, live dissection
    Repulsing to the core

    [Chorus]

    ****in' burns

    Pathogens seek horrible end
    Churning factories of death
    Crematoriums see your crime
You will see me in hell

Maybe some of them chose not to go because it was depress them too much.

I personally wouldn't want to go to a place where people were gassed and starved to death because it somehow is supposed to inspire you?

Its to make sure we all remember this happened and won't let it happen again. Thats the danger if we forget all about it.

LOLs I knew I must have read that somewhere! To quote somebody else (Rooney possiibly?) it serves to put football into perspective.

Never thought I'd find myself quoting Wayne bloody Rooney thats for sure.

As always it should be each to their own. I don't like the idea on looking down on those who chose not to. Having been myself, its not for everybody.

I went last Easter, and to be honest, if the Auschwitz camp wasn't associated with such horrible things, it would actually look like quite a nice place. The buildings look like university halls (say what you want about what that implies). Birkenau, however, which is nearby, is much more 'concentration campey'- wooden huts in rows, with barbed wire everywhere and the famous entrance.

Grim places for sure though, especially looking at the children's suitcases, which had their names and ages written on. Really heartbreaking.
