I don't see anything wrong in using his position to influence the Club to improve the quality of the side and be more ambitious.

Right now I certainly don't see him as getting too big for his boots, nor becoming a mercenary.

I hope you are right. However, if he leaves because we do not pay him more or we do not purchase enough players (in his view) then he would be, by definition, a mercenary.

we'll have to agree to disagree. If he leaves then all clubs with prospects will pay him more. Unless he secretly wants to join a no-hoper.
He has served, what is it 8 years?, and few fans would say we have improved.
Perhaps he thinks he has maybe 3 more years to achieve something that doesn't seem possible with us.
I will find it hard to condemn him.

I was reading a copy of The Gooner the other day<Mrs C was making me have a clear out>It was episode 208 <I think> from the Autumn of 2010.In it was an article about RVP,the author's view was that RVP was an injury prone waste of space and should have been ****ed off years ago.I think the author of the article has a point and personally i think RVP owes AFC & Arsene Wenger big time and should reward them with the same amount of loyalty he has been shown over the years.t's just a thought<ok>

We can look at the example of the OXO substitution against Man U, the obvious visible disappointment with the decision and then the later towing of the party line.

I don't think he is getting too big for his boots either, but if it is clear that the club are not matching the desires and ambitions of a player and a fan of the club then, at some point you have to leave the club, no point hanging around if the club are being stagnant. Why should you stay and give your all for a club that are not using it for good.

Cym: it is a valid viewpoint. There were times when I would have sold him, its true.
Expecting footballers to be loyal when they also believe their club could be more ambitious, is maybe out of touch with the modern game.
Thinking of Matt Le Tissier - what excellent service - but was therefore denied honours with a more successful club.

Many of my friends said Le Tiss was in his comfort zone and wouldn't have been the big fish elsewhere.

    <smooch>

I'm hoping we can all get along a lot better now that Voldemort has run off. It will be nice to get along with old Hotty once again too.

There are a couple of others I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire, but thankfully they only usually posted when they had 'him' to hide behind :)

He is only mirroring what the majority of us Arsenal fans are saying. I have yet to meet an Arsenal fan that agrees with what the current Arsenal administration is doing in terms of it's transfer policy. He is just trying to force them into action, which i am in total agreement with.

We are more than capable to strengthen our squad with top quality players. We are moving in the right direction in terms of overhauling our wage structure, we just need a little more.

The only way we can be competitive is to keep players like RVP. Whether we like it or not, he has to stay for us to progress as a team. Just imagine the message we'll give out to the rest of the squad when the last of our big players leaves. You think that our top young prospects in Chesney, Wilshere, OXO, Champbell, Miyaichi and Gibbs won't think, WTF, Arsenal aren't the team i thought they were. You think that they'll hang around to make up the numbers? You think they don't see other teams getting stronger and are consistently winning trophies? Lastly, you think Man U, Chelsea and City won't come to get them?

That's why selling RVP will have so many repercussions down the line.

ha! ha! - had to look Voldemort up - 'cos I've not read or seen any Rowling.
Nothing wrong with Jayram - he just cannot let it go - much like Frisky Piskie (or should I say - Batman)..
Yes he can state some views that leave you cold - but we can and do ALL manage that - whats a forum for?
Why do people have to gang up? Any old bully is enough - do we need several?

    Pathetic.

You made the accusations of bullying. And now you try and twist it round the other way.

****ing poor show BADM. Get over yourself and your faux sense of injustice.
