Adding some more: - Excellent players have gone from hero to zero when switching clubs on their peak. - Glory, or even a starting place, aren't guaranteed - Style of play of new host club may not allow him to shine - He doesn't have the luxury of 'time' to adapt to a new league. Whereas switching to an EPL club will make him an instant villain.
Would you be annoyed if you sold him and reinvested the money in players? Say if you sold RVP and ended up with, say, Menez and Giroud?
All the reasons for him to stay are based on romance more than anything else. There is no real reason to stay otherwise. Romance in football is dead though, a player's loyalty is called into question all the time, gone are the days when a player had a good thing at a club and realised that and stayed there. Players are now drawn to the dollar and trophies. I'd be a pro-baller for the salary I am on now in my current job which is a normal wage.
So you think him overrated, given you don't think he could get into many other teams? I am surprised.
Captaincy? Forget it. Starting Place Guaranteed? That's the problem at Arsenal. London? Great City, but there are others. Money! He'll get more elsewhere Trophies! He can't look back on his career with nowt to show. That is what he needs to see in his Arsenal future. And that means paying him what he can earn elsewhere ie £180-200K a week for 4 years (£40M incl fees/bonuses/agents etc) Sign 4/5 Players of similar ability and track record, which at approx £25M apiece means an overall investment of £325-£390M It might sound alarmist to suggest that AFC need that level of investment to compete at the Business end of the Premier League and CL, but that is the reality.
this is EXACTLY what we need to be doing and we CAN afford players in this price range. Maybe not all 4 at the same time but certainly 5 over 3 years is doable. Even if we did 2 per season and clawed back some funds by releasing others its easily doable.
If you were to say to RVP, there will be these Players here over the next 3 years, you might as well call him a Taxi. That investment is needed this Summer.
If RVP cared about trophies he would have left Arsenal a long time ago. Give him enough money and he will stay. Otherwise off to City for trophies and cash
Robin van Persie will not be joining Man City, says Arsenal star's dad Read more: http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/footba...ter-city-says-arsenal-stars-dad#ixzz1xHFRpOT8 Manchester City have been dealt a major blow in their quest to poach Arsenal’s Robin van Persie, after the striker’s dad insisted his son will not join another English club. The Dutchman’s future at the Gunners is far from certain, and with his contract at the Emirates set to expire at the end of next season, Premier League champions City are believed to be leading the chase for his signature. However, Van Persie, who has been with Arsenal since 2004, will not be following in the footsteps of Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy, Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure, according to his dad. Bob van Persie was quoted as saying to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo: ‘It is impossible to go to another English team.’ And while three of those four ex-Gunners who defected to the Ethiad have tasted league glory since their move, Van Persie’s dad insists silverware will not be the only factor in his son’s final decision. He added: ‘Robin does everything necessary to win, but victory is not his only goal. Play to win, but not at any cost.' He also seemed to rule out the possibility of a move to one of La Liga's top clubs, adding: 'Why the hell would he play at Barcelona or Real? 'Barca already have Messi and it does not make sense to join them. Madrid are not a team, but a group of stars.' Italian giants Juventus are also thought to be closely monitoring Van Persie’s situation, after further contract talks between the striker and Arsenal were shelved until after Euro 2012. This article is as clear as can be regarding RVP, he DOES NOT WANT TO LEAVE. I think his dad spelt it out as clear as can be without saying, Arsenal, get your FUGGING act straight! If negotiations go well at Arsenal then he'll stay. But we no longer have someone as good as David Dein and unfortunately we seem to be driven by something other than football. His wife, his mother, his kids, his father and RVP himself have all said he is happy at Arsenal. If he leaves then i will put the blame soley on the current Arsenal administration.
I think it is clear as well and what his dad seems to indicate is what I have secretly been thinking. Not all players motivation is just money or trophies. Not all players want to play for a team who already have a team full of superstars, where is the challenge in doing that ? If what his dad says is actually how RVP feels then he has gone up massively in my estimation. I feel RVP will remain an Arsenal player, he wants to see investment though - so spend some bloody money you tight bastards !
is this drip feed of comments about RVP intended to urge Wenger into adding quality to the team? It does seem to be a message to the Club, and the fans, that he would stay on HIS terms. That does not seem to be expecting us to match the crazy money others would pay him.
...and that would be wrong. If he leaves, it would be because he chose to. He is not the club's manager and should not be able to dictate our purchasing policy. He earns a small fortune and plays regular CL football. Apart from one season, he was part of the reason we hadn't picked up silverware. I hope he stays
He's not dictating the clubs policy - he is echoing the views of the majority of Arsenal fans. If they won't listen to us then hopefully they will listen to our best player and club captain - after all - he is a fan as well !
Ok, if the club do not listen, will you leave Arsenal and give your support (services) to another club? It certainly seems like that is what you all believe RVP will do, yet you say he is a fan just like you? Anyone else see a contradiction here?
