The England squad for Euro 2012 contains 6 Liverpool players. Four first choice selections, and two replacing injured players. Some people have critisized this, for what ever reasons.

Is it unfair or wrong to have 6 players from 1 team in the squad, or are the media just clutching straws to create conflict?

    Opinions?

Germany have 8 players from Bayern Munich, and 4 from Borussia Dortmund.
Spain have 6 from Barcelona and 5 from Real Madrid.
    Italy have 7 from Juventus.

I imagine the England manager picks his squad from the English players available to him with scant regard to the club they play for.
I think too much is being read into this.

Could be worse, could have 'wonderkid' cleverly playing lol.

Other than Downing, I can't see anything wrong with the Liverpool players picked though. The likes on Henderson, Kelly, Cleverly and so on should be involved to bring in young players who will excell in the future tournaments.

The whole 8th is a misdirection.

The defenders johnston & kelly selected were part of one of the most impressive defensive records in the premiership last season: they can't be blamed on ineffectual strikers.

People who don't rate Gerrard, didn't rate him when he was in a team finishing 2nd, usually for tribal reasons. Looking at the injuries to other experienced & season performing players he's an obvious choice. he'd arguably still be even with everyone fit.

Downing: if some weren't injured you could argue more but they are so he's the best "back up"based on his previous England performances. I personally am not a fan & wouldn't start him.

    Same with Henderson. If some others had been fit he wouldn't be there but they aren't so he is;

Carroll; is the big man option; If you're going to have one the only alternatives are Crouch or Holt. Never going to be Holt. Stoke finished below LFC did they not.

If the tournament had been a year before we wouldn't be having this convo.

    Downing good at AV
Henderson good at SFC & U21
    Carroll good at NUFC

SG & GJ always in the mix so only Kelly would have been surprising & he's not due to circumstances.

If you take the arguments that none of these players are good enough to play for England then it's a judgement on the Depth of home grown players in the top league isn't it?

The World Cup winning team of '66 had three West Ham players in the starting 11. West Ham finished 12th in '66.

Sorry to add: if these six players over the next 3 years are shaped into a efficient unit playing a mature possession football with their club manager surely it would be a great advantage transferring them all to the national squad?
Still has to be done of course lol

Downing is total bollox, he has never been any good anywhere he has played. Henderson is stupidly overrated and should not even be in the premiership IMHO.

Carrol is decent though and so is Gerrard when he fancies it.

That is why england are ****e . Six players from a poor mid table premier league side who have no hope of ever winning anything again. Lfc are now just the same as aston villa, the odd cup every twenty years, the odd europa league game and nothing in between. You are not even fit to classed as our rivals now you are irrevelvant. Even everton are better than you at the moment.

I will just say though... Greece won the whole tournament with nothing but Championship level players.

The best teams dont always win, Man City should have walked the league by 10+ points and their is no way Chelsea are the best team in the Europe.

Are we irrelevant or irreverent; you appear to be undecided?

Sorry one odd cup more than you in the last year. Let's not talk about history eh?

Odd Europa cup game: like yourselves last year then? How many of those did you win again?

If your lot weren't getting banned for kicking people; constantly injured or huffing like little girls maybe we'd be talking about your domination of the England squad. Oh right; because England won all those tournaments when they were filled with United's Golden generation of champions.

    ..and they call us deranged.

  19. It might contain six Liverpool players but how many of them will see a lot of game time...?

    Gerrard - yes
    Johnson - yes
Downing - yes (unfortunately) but hopefully as a sub only
Carroll - not sure, I think Welbeck will be first choice before Rooney's immediate return.
    Henderson - no
    Kelly - no

    In comparison:

    - all three of the Man City player - Hart, Lescott and Milner - will see a lot of game time.
    - both Chelsea players - Cole and Terry - will be first choice.
    - of the four Man Utd players, Young will be first choice, Welbeck will until Rooney's return at least with just Jones being a bit part player.
    - Arsenal have have Theo and the ox, at least one will probably be a bit part player, the other may be a starter
    - Tottenham have a starter in Parker and a impact sub in Defoe

All in all, Man Utd and Man City will have a similar effect as us, Chelsea slightly less. The other two won't really be bothered, although because of Parker, Tottenham probably a little more than Arsenal.

'Even everton are better than you at the moment.'

So by that token the Burnley team of '66 that finished above United in the league should have had more players in the starting 11 than the two United players of Charlton and Styles?
