I love it when people like Downing give it the bigun. Stewart Downing !! Stewart bloody Downing !! The audacity !

Remind me why Downing is in the squad again, apart from stealing oxygen from the other squad members .....

 

how did he get in the team ahead of Adam Johnson and Sturridge is beyond me?

I ain't sticking up for Downing in any way ... but what is he expected to say?

Crap players should shut the hell up

Its like when I see players who have not performed for Arsenal making headlines saying things before up-coming games, they should concentrate on their own game considering they have been sh!te. Downing is worse that anonymous, if England rely on the likes of Downing they may as well do some sewing instead cos they have no chance.

He was asked by a French journalist about which aspect of the French side he feared, players in particular etc.

What else was he meant to say? The full quote was something like 'I wouldn't say we fear them, we don't fear anybody. They're a great side but so are we'.

Seriously, would you rather he said 'oh well, that French lot, our Scott has been up all night worrying about Nasri, Glen's pissed himself twice about Ribery'.

I actually don't think Downing is that bad, just decidedly average. Spending a season in a Liverpool squad bereft of confidence with the traditional over-expectation of Scousers has broken him. Maybe Hodgson or Rodgers can fix him, who knows.

Saying that, I don't think he should be in the England squad as it sends out an atrocious message that you can be **** all season and still get a call up. He doesn't fear the French? Well, you can bet your bottom dollar that the French do not fear Stewart Downing either!

 

Hahahaha, you pretty much hit it on the head. The last sentence just tells it all.

 

The solution is simple; when asked the question he should simply have said "I, of all people, am not in a position to answer that question because I have been worse than p!ss poor this season". Maybe he could remove the word "p!ss" for daytime TV.
