Brilliant news! A very good league, where if he gets a good amount of game time, valuable experience for him to improve as player
Good. I didn't think he was good enough last year so definitely don't think he was good enough for this coming year, but hopefully he'll be playing regularly for Palace which will help him to no end. Good deal for both sides.
I think he can play in the prem, look how far he has come in a short space of time, obviously got determination might be wrong but i think he will do great, always looked solid for us probably more so than Fonte
Great news. It's no loss for us (I seriously do not believe that he's ready for PL football - and indeed, for all we know, he may never be), and it allows him to grow and improve as a footballer. If he comes back a better footballer, then great for him and for us. And playing Championship football, at a team like Palace, you would assume that he will improve (so long as he gets the game time).
Are you joking? He's the most over rated player we have, the only reason he's so popular is that he's local (4th choice when Seaborne was fit, yet a lot of people got on Seabornes back unfairly, tells you something). Crystal Palace fans will realise he's average at best.
For the record I do think he will develop into a first choice centre back for us, but to say he was anything other than average last season is laughable.
Considering he was thrown in at the deep end with Seaborne's injury, he did extremely well, and after a few shaky moments he looked more composed than Seaborne ever did. I'm optimistic about his future.
I have to say I too am optimistic in regards to Martins future. I think he will make a first class centre back and will improve a great deal with palace and constant games. He will be a star in the future...the experience will do him good.
I think our success has left him behind, but I do rate Martin. Our promotion has reduced opportunities for him even further. Hope he gets a lot of game time at Crystal Palace (not guaranteed) and his career gets back on track. Wouldn't be surprised to see him back at Saints if he has a good season.
I'm wondering now whether we'll have him back at the end of the season, or if they'll sign him permanently. I think he's currently a good Championship defender with the potential to make it to the Premier League, but if we continue to improve at the same rate, I don't know if Martin will ever make it into our first team. We'll probably get two new centre-backs this summer, who will probably both be very good players. If pushed to make a guess now, I'd say he might sign permanently for Palace.
I am wondering how disappointed Martin must be. It must be disappointing for a player to be told to go and find a loan club as you aren't good enough for the 25 man squad this season. Hope he does well for Palace and gets a chance to progress.
A lot of us here had called Martin on loan as a move and there can be no arguments that it's good for all parties. Palace don't have the finances for a big squad so he will get plenty of opportunities. We will never know if he is good enough unless he gets the chance.
Think this is now looking like a right footed CB is a priority. Hopefully Adkins is working hard behind closed doors. Looking forward to hearing who the new signing will be.
Still can't help but think he must be gutted not being named in the 25 man squad. This must be a blow as he must be wondering who else in the squad will be named over him ?
I'd be very surprised if he felt like that. If I was offered the chance of being player no.25 in a 25 man PL squad, but rarely ever kick a ball (the guy can't be an idiot, he knows he wasn't even a first-team regular in the Championship for us), or play week in, week out at a Championship club, I know what I'd be choosing. At his age, it's all about getting regular games to kick your career off.
