Joey Barton has savaged his England rivals in a withering attacking, claiming he is the best midfielder in the country. Barton dismissed Frank Lampard as past it, Steven Gerrard as injury prone and Gareth Barry as "teacher's pet".

Love the language used. "SAVAGED" makes him sound like he's ripped lampards jugular out, not just expressed the view he is past it. The first sentence doesn't even make sense and I can't see anything other than the truth in his remarks.

    In other news

Newcastle United are preparing a £19.2m swoop for Anderlecht's 17-year-old striker Romelu Lukaku, but Spurs are also keen with Peter Crouch's future unclear at White Hart Lane.

    Thoughts?
I know he's meant to be a whiz-kid but I don't know any more than that.

I'd love it if we got Lukaku. I don't think he's as good as everyone makes out, but I think he'll be top drawer nonetheless, and even if he turns out to be ****, at least we'd have beaten Spurs to him. :D

He has been **** this season apparently. Barton however, has been brilliant, his crossing has been as good as Beckham's. The England call ups are meant to be based on form and you cannot tell me that Lampard, Barry and Parker have been better than Barton this season.

Now Parker vs Barton on form is tricky as they are very different players and both have been excellent.
Parker would undoubtedly have improved the England team at the world cup as Barry is simply awful, and slow.

Parker the only one there that could be argued. The other 2 have been ****e. Barton, Wilshere and Parker are the 3 standout English midfielders.

Lukaku? 12 goals in 27 isn't bad, although that is in a **** league.

Yeah was something like 67 in 64, for someone like Heerneveen.

I think Alves was in the Eredivisie. The Belgian league (think it's called the Juliper league or something like that) is even worse. He's only 17 though.
