Southampton fan in peace, but I do feel sorry for Cardiff fans. Yes, Cardiff are apparently going to be getting £100 million (but look at Portsmouth before you all start rejoicing), but at what cost? It sets a precedent. What if the Malaysian says, you know what, Heathrow is far easier to get to than Cardiff from Malaysia, and London is far better know in Malaysia. Lets move the team there are call them London Dragons! Don't worry fans, I guarantee its still inherently the same team, and if we move i'll invest £200 million and we'll get to the Champions league! All i'm going to say is that if Southampton stoped playing in red and white, I wouldn't be buying a shirt, and I think I would be reconsidering my support. After the MKDons/Wimbledon episode rules were put in place to stop name changing and relocating. I dont wear football shirts to matches. Told my son im not buying a red one though. We so many historic debts to service its not as easy as cutting costs. Relegation would be a financial disaster. Admin not an option as too many people involved who are owed millions. Only way to get their money is with PL football. Why we need to play in red I dont know.

How am I "lecturing"? I'm showing sympathy for a situation I don't think fans of any club should be forced into. But hey, why let an honest debate get in the way of blind hatred? We've always had "The Peacocks" as one of our minor nicknames, but it was only on the badge from 1980-1984, so frankly it doesn't matter that it isn't on the badge now. It seems you'd rather have a pop at us than defend your own club's tradition.

Okay, calm, peace. However, my argument is that (basically) pragmatism is more sensible than sentiment. The rebranding will do the city of cardiff good, if IF we go up. We have to embrace change. It's still cardiff city's football club. I'll shout for them. If it were my 100000000 I'd want my face on the shirts but that would ensure am average gate of 8 .
I understand mate, I'm just interested in the situation as with our possible takeover it's a scenario I've gone over in my head a few times. As much as I dislike your club generally I feel for your fans with the tricky situation you have been put in.
Simon, I don't think anyone is happy with the change but it's needed if the Malaysians have done their homework. It does sound like they gave a take it or leave it ultimatum but I believe the press and some of the more vocal nay sayers were responsible for that belief. The Malaysians would have carried out a market study and it points to red shirts and a dragon is more marketable in Asia than the bluebird. I am not in a position to say if this is true but it's suggested that Vincent Tan can market the bluebirds in Asia a lot easier with the red shirt and dragon. I believe he also owns a 3rd of a Asia wide sports network which he will obviously utilise. The £100 million is a sizeable carrot for any club and the club needs it to move forward to the next level. The news of the re-brand was leaked out before all the details were discussed and an exchange of views was not possible at the time. The club history is intact and cannot be eradicated and to this the the Cardiff City Stadium will effectively become a living museum for every thing Cardiff City. The is a dragon on the current badge along with the bluebird. The new badge sees the dragon more prominent then the bluebird but both are there to see. Having said that, the bluebird has not always been visible on the shirt, it would be sad if it did disappear but not soul destroying. We will still play in blue but away from home and I'd suggest this may be to do with the potential TV rights for Cardiff City in Asia (this is my view). The money will go towards increasing the current stadium capacity, a new state of the art training facility and clearing some debt. So in essence I do not think we (the fans) are selling our souls as some posters have stated. I personally do not like the new strip or badge but if the Malaysians are to be believed it is for the benefit of the club. I have no reason to doubt them as they have injected approximately £40 million to date and have promised more. The bottom line is the Malaysians have kept us afloat and have committed to moving the club forward.
What I've mainly been wondering is how red kit = £100m, blue kit = £0. The most important factor to success in Asia is simply being in the PL. I get that from the 2 options given this is best for your club, it's the way the Malaysians have given you this ultimatum that irks me.
