It's funny, the two articles you've just posted are full of our of context quotes and no real substance at all. They can be taken either way, for me, Cabaye is just more than likely saying if they want to make an approach, do so through my agent, he's not talking to other clubs, and praising SJP and the atmosphere. Douglas comes across as greedy and with a very high opinion of himself. Personally I think the Douglas situation is the negative and the Cabaye one, not so much.

I agree with what you are saying about Douglas, seems like a bit of an ego to me and didn't like the jibe about there "being a bigger club than newcastle" if he can't say anything substantial then why say anything at all? Good player though and would improve us IMO. Wouldn't want us getting him if he came with an attitude though, don't want anything disrupting the harmony.

Also I hope you are correct about Cabaye.

'There's a bigger club than Newcastle' - Sorry but if that's his attitude he can stay well away. You don't say that about a club that may be interested in signing you.

Me too, but it's classic sky sports, something about nothing getting clicks online and viewers to stay over the ads. If Cabaye is off, Sky Sports won't break it, and hes not stupid enough to give the game away to France football, these are translated quotes taken out f context.

Re: Douglas there are very few positives to draw from his 'bigger' club comment.

The only possible one would be that he is genuinely interested in coming and that when he does he can say how much he wants to be here having turned down bigger clubs. If it was Chelsea in for him, then forget history, we have to accept that as European champions they are a bigger club at the minute. I know its a long shot. ust clutching at straws for possible positives from this if we do end up getting him.

Class player and would greatly help the strength of the squad ability wise. However, our greatest asset is the team spirit so he can leve his attitude behind if he has one.

I was wary of how I worded it, not wanting it to be perceived that I didn't think there were bigger clubs, just that it probably wasn't the best thing he could have said. Fair play if they are interested but unless the outcome you suggest occurs he's not going to ingratiate himself with Newcastle fans.

I agree with you totally. Like I said I was clutching at straws and the picture I painted is hardly likely. Again its Sky Sports though so who knows what was actually said?

    OMFG please let this happen.

He's perfect for us. I seen him play.

He's ****ing beast in the air, so damn strong, like seriously Yaya Toure strong! In terms of all out pace, he's probably faster than our other CB's.

Over a short distance I'd still say Colo was quicker, but long distance pace, he's quite fast.

And for a big bloke, he's quite precise in his tackling. He's not that good slide tackling but stand tackling he's as good as anyone in our team.

He's similar to Tiote, but a bit less mature. If we think Tiote is bad for being over zealous at times, Douglas is worse.

Douglas in most games is fantastic, but sometimes he lashes out. We can fix that though. He'd be a fantastic signing. Hope to god it happens!!

Vertonghen is great, but for what we need, I'd say Douglas would be a better buy if I'm honest.

Vertonghen is a technical, all round great player, BUT....

He doesn't have the same power or aerial presence as Douglas, something which we really lack.

We NEED an dominant, strong, aerial presence at the back that wont get injured half the season (sorry to say that for Saylor)

Saylor is powerful and good in the air, but not as strong or as good in the air as Douglas is, and Douglas doesn't get injured a lot,

Vertonghen is class but not the same presence at the back that Douglas and Saylor are.

Douglas isn't injury prone, and has been in TOTW a lot due to his defensive displays, and he's exactly what we need at the back.

Douglas and Vertonghen would be one of the best defensive duo's in the world together, but due to the hype of Vertonghen, I don't see us getting him.

Douglas is exactly what we need, Vertonghen would be an amazing signing, but him and Coloccini together, I just don't see it.

Not exactly got me drooling at the thought of a centre-back giving away free-kicks and penalties left, right and centre. You can be as dominant in the air and strong as you like, if you are going to constantly let down your team mates by conceding chance after chance by fouling in and around the box I'd leave well alone.

As much as I love him, we already have Saylor with enough of a tendency to do this

I expect Saylor to be first choice next season. Looked every bit an international centre half early in the season. We missed him and his commitment badly during a sticky mid season spell. To be honest though Willo did well, I never felt comfortable after Saylor was ruled out for the season. I always felt we were prone to a mad 20mins where we'd ship goals galore.

Saylor is at crunch time in his career. He has been very unlucky with the types of injuries and the time they've kept him out. At present I'm still happy to not class him as injury prone, more unlucky. But if he has another truncated season I think we'll have to just assume he is never gone get away from the tag. A clear run in the team and I think he'll be pushing for an international spot.

I always had faith that Saylor would start to come good around now. Most centre halfs get towards 25 and just mature, cutting out errors. He has stopped all the silly fouls etc. Him and Colo are a perfect match. We miss the threat he brings from set plays too. I'm hoping we go for a younger centre back like 23yr old Toby Alderweireld. Seen enough to not let us down, and versaltile.
