And Sporting Lisbon who were very good when they played us in the group stages! We have drawn the winners in Inter though. But they lost 6-0 to Spurs and we only lost 1-0 to Spurs but played quite well against them. (Couldn't finish to save our lives that night! A familar story from last season...) Feeling confident about doing well. If we can take some of our chances, we should do pretty well. The likes of Suso might still be able to play and I believe the likes of Morgan & McLaughlin will still be eligible.
Really looking forward to it again. Will be interesting to see the sort of style we set out to play this season and whether or not there are any noticeable changes
Hoping I will get a bit of time to watch some of ours games this time around, far too busy last season
Will definitely watch most of them, I have loads of time off now as I've nearly finished my A-levels. When do they start? It probably says on the website but I cba to look
No dates for the games have been announced yet. I'll update this thread when the fixture list is announced and if people want me to do match threads for each of our games like last season, i'll be happy to give that a go!
find it interesting other clubs in europe have a huge huge advantage in blooding youth via the b team set up playing league football. I fee our reserves have not enough competition to force them to mature and increase thier standards and results are very mixed at that level. The step up to senior football is just too great.
Agree completely....Many of the Spanish clubs have B and even C teams which play competitively. Our reserve games are tantamount to schoolboy games in comparrison
I hope it's got a better later format than last year as i felt it was rushed in the end. I think a few guys should have had an awful wake up last year looking at our lads compared to other clubs and i think 90% was down to experience and ongoing standards to play against. (our best reserve game last year was prob everton before the fa cup semi)
A bit of news on the NextGen series... Source: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...curtail-NextGen-series.html?ito=feeds-newsxml Some interesting developments. It seems that UEFA want complete control & are setting this up to stop the growth of the NextGen which has been become very popular. Would be a great shame, in my opinion, if this tournament was to be overtaken by the new UEFA 'Under 19's Champions League'.
I think perosnally that if an inititave taken by clubs to better develop youth is taken on board by uefa that can only be a good thing... but i am willing to bet any moeny that uefa will drop the "shadowing" thing and will make sure the big clubs who want to develop kids are in there not some crap team from the back passage of europe or even the mighty basel.... i mean come on who needs their u19s thrashed 15-0 by barca's u19s?
The club have now confirmed the dates & times for 4 of our fixtures for the group stages of the tournament. See the orignal post in this thread for those 4 fixtures. We are still waiting for confirmation of the home game with Inter Milan & the away game with Rosenborg. I'll update this thread when those fixtures have been confirmed.
It did save me digging up the pre-season thread which was somewhere far, far away... Basically, I couldn't be bothered so it was useful that you created a thread! And we won the game so it's all good. Anyway, i'm hoping the club show this season's NextGen games like last season. And hopefully we can improve and not get torn apart by the likes of Ajax & Sporting Lisbon!
