They retired Pour Moi because they knew he was a poor horse? Keep up the ludicrous theories.

Your double standards know no bounds Shergar.

How can you use 'number of Group 1 wins' for Glint Of Gold to support your Shergar argument when you frequently state that Goldikova is little more than an average Group 1 horse who has won no less than 14?

One thing I learned on BBC606 was that if you criticised a horse, it would be someone's favourite and they would be offended and defend it. Conversely, if you talked a horse up, someone would disagree and criticise it. God, did that cause some arguments on there. Everyone knows that the only horses that are beyond criticism are Arkle and Sea Bird. EOS.

I'm not claiming Glint Of Golf was any sort of superstar, all I'm claiming is that he was pretty good.*

As for Goldikova*

Zarkava*
Makfi
Canford Cliffs*
Immortal Verse*
Dream Ahead

5 horses who beat Goldikova, and proved there superiority over her.

She really was nothing special whatsoever, she just beat aload of trees over in America.

America's turf racing is embarrassing and any *half decent euro horse could dominate over there.*

The likes of Zarkava, Zenyatta and Black Caviar are 3 mares, who have 10 times the talent of Goldikova, and everyone knows this.*

Goldikova is the most overrated horse of the modern era:biggrin:*

Goldikova was only beat as peslier put in over weight! Pour moi's derby being rubbish did you say ! Next horses out treasure beach double group 1 winner Carlton house and Memphis Tennessee won nto ! Didn't masked marvel finish 8th and now a group 1 winner !!!! Give these horses a chance how many group 1s have any this lots derby ran !!! None apart from bonfire who was 3rd and Camelot a 3 time group 1 winner and double classic winner ! How many horses have won group 1s on there 2nd 3rd and 4th start! He won the guineas at a distance that didn't suit or ground and did handle Epsom and still won easily ! He has won the same amount of group 1s as cirrus d angles with 18less starts and 3 years younger !!!

This was always my theory about the decision to retire denman. Kauto proved he wasnt past it by winning the betfair chase so they thought it had a chance of winning the gold cup so they retired denman cos they knew it would beat kauto again in the gold cup and ruin the fairytale ending to kautos career

The Kauto v Denman stuff gets more and more ludicrous.

They both beat each-other fairly and squarely and then they were both mugged late on by Long Run in 2011 as they were both declining slightly. Both all time greats. Both not invincible. I don't know what more needs to be said on the sibject than to simply enjoy both of their quite epic careers.

Stop ignoring the facts. Denman finished infront of Kauto Star on 3 of the 4 occasions they met, and Kauto Star only ever beat him after Denman had been out for most of the season with a heart problem:biggrin:*

Comparing the four-year-old Glint Of Gold with the three-year-old that trailed in ten lengths behind Shergar is preposterous, but it keeps some people happy. Nobody actually puts a date on when Ian Balding described him as his second-best horse or how the actual question was phrased.

Camelot was visually impressive in winning the Derby. Had his trainer and principle owners supplied half a dozen runners instead of just two (as they have done in recent years) it would not be so easy to crab the form on the grounds of seemingly moderate opposition. Bonfire clearly did not stay but there did not appear to be excuses for the rest – they just ran as well as they could. Only time will tell whether Camelot is a good horse in a moderate year or whether he is a great horse.

Some have already described the St Leger as a “penalty kick” for Aidan O’Brien’s colt but supporters of the 1981 Derby winner will attest that there is no such thing. As John Karter once wrote, “The French will not hear of defeat for the unbeaten Machiavellian at Newmarket, but, as we all know, deaf people abound in racing.”

When horses that have given so much pleasure start to be slagged off I feel it's time to close the thread. This happened a few times on BBC606 and it wasn't pleasant. I'll leave it open a bit longer and see how it develops.
