Very unfair. As pointed out, Rio had two very good world cups. Him and Sol formed a brilliant partnership in 2002. He was a very good player for his country and club and at his peak was without a doubt world class.
Have we ever conceded a tournament goal with Rio on the pitch? If we have its not many. Hes been a level above our other defenders and the likes of Terry have let us down on the pitch. Rio essentially did the job of 2 when he and Terry played. Thats what hes had to deal with, having to make up for the shocking footballer that is John Terry. How is he being selfish, he didnt want to be on standby. If hes not important enough to england but a racist **** is then why should he cancel his summer that he will spend with his family to be linked with a known racist. Jones has not even played at CB much for United. There must be a reason for that. He is still not very good at it, especially at the highest level, and we simply can't go into a tournament having players who might do a job. Oh dear.... John Terry didnt help Chelsea get **** all, he almost cost them everything including their future. Drogba however won them everything last season. Terry, the man who didnt play in the final or the second half of the semi final and who was consistently saved by Cahill ( just like Rio spent his time saving John Terry for England ). The same player Chelsea fans consider a liability aswell. Rio, who was better than Evans, Smalling and Jones played with young players who had much to learn or a player who for 2 years has been really low on confidence. They turned out to be a great defensive pair but it was rios know how and ability that made it so. Bar the Everton game we had a brilliant defence and Rio was very much the reason, not the only reason but a big reason. Its like you and Jayram are still in 2010 when Rio was a cripple.
I selected the 2 best or 2 of the best defenders for the 2 nations. Its exactly what Rio is, one of if not the best and if last season is what we base it on he was by far the best CB who was English. Stop believing your own nonsense ! Terry defended like a stalwart and he lead Chelsea on the pitch. His defending under Di Matteo was the reason they won the CL - he got them to the final after all. One discretion does not undo all the good things he did on the pitch. I dislike the guy massively but I speak with no bias. Terry is much the better defender than Ferdinand looks utterly ordinary.
