This is pretty much it. Rio's legs went a couple of years ago, it's his experience and Vidic that has carried him this far. As much as i dislike that racist twat JT, he is still playing well and would bring much needed experience at the back.

Terry is still England's best CB, Ferdinand is average.

    Agree with this.

Also Ferdinand has actually been very poor in terms of form of late.(not just fitness issues)

I have to say I'm more suprised Micah Richards didnt get called up! He's been excellent this Season.

With Cahill out I would probably play Terry and Jagielka.

Rio was done in by his own club manager. Fergie raised doubts about Rio's fitness, and that's all the FA and Roy needed. Rio had actually done well for United last season. Loads of United fans will tell you that. Him and Evans formed a solid partnership and he should have been in the squad at the very least. But, the issue with Terry was a problem and the FA plus Roy looked for any excuse to leave him out. Like I said, Rio was done in by his own club manager.

  6. Thats a fair few guesses and assumptions there.

Ferdinand was terrible in the CL this year and his attitude, based on his twitter rants, probably did him no favours.

United as a whole had a shocker in the CL. Fergie tried to rotate and he paid for it. In the league, Rio was very good for United. Him and Evans formed the base for their title charge. Twitter rants are nothing compared to what Terry got up to last season, so if we based selections on those issues, then Terry should not have gone either. As soon as Fergie piped up and voiced his doubts, it was all but over for Rio and his Euro hopes.

  9. I agree that Terry should not be going, but I cant buy the fact that Ferdinand should be going. Against the best he was lacking this year. His legs look gone.

They already have Jagielka, Jones and Milner for the versatility so picking Kelly was just absurd. Another bits and bobs player from Liverpool comes in to replace an out and out CB. When you have someone like Rio not there. Kelly, FFS. <doh>

i dont quite get what the fuss is about , he wasnt picked because of footballing reason , most likely to do with the fact he hasnt been spectacular for england is at an age where 4 games in 8 days would be beyond him , injuries to other players do not change this , but saying that :-

    richards > Kelly

  12. Perhaps Hodgeson thinks Kelly is a good bet. I would say let the man do his job and then criticise if it goes wrong. He's had two games and won both of them, so far, and we look solid. So far I think he started really well, results wise, and with the way he is handling the media, pressure, and players.

Kelly is not a good bet. It's a stupid one. We are left with three proper CB's after the injury to Cahill, which is Terry,Lescott and Jagielka. How on earth can you replace an out and out CB with some bits and bobs dross like Kelly? I just do not understand the Kelly call. We already have Jones to cover at RB if needed.

****face let me let you in on a little secret. Rio has never underperformed for England.

    98 - Played no part
2000 - not selected.....worked out well didnt it????
2002 - played well, probably the best defender we had. Campbell....hmmm....
    2004 - not selected
2006 - England conceded just once with him on the pitch. We were a shambles without him.
    2008 - England didnt qualify
2010 - Injured before it started
2012 - Racist favoured ahead of him.

So as you can see the myth that Rios flopped for England is simply bullshit. When hes played England have looked so much better organised, had much more composure in defence and usually kept clean sheets.

On last season he should of been. He was miles and miles ahead of the other English CB.

Let me put it in simpleton terms for you..

Rio > Terry, Jones ( who plays at the same ****ing club and played RB all season where as now hes going to play CB for england as Kelly is a RB....football reasons eh Woy, ****! ), Cahill and the rest.

While John Terry is getting himself sent off, arrested, attacked, or sucked off by his team mates wife Rio was doing his best to get United a title.

Why is John Terry in the team, hes worse that Bramble and imo the worst player in english football bar none.

  16. He's had 81 caps for his country - and done **** all. We've won just over half the games he has played in - not great. Not entirely his fault of course, but to call him anything other than average is stretching it. he wont be missed at all by England.

All he is doing now is acting like a selfish little prick - very much in line with his whole career.

Rio played 30 games for United in the PL last season and 38 games all season.

He missed a handful of games. This included being part of a side that beat all its rivals bar City at least once last season. So yeh, the 'he didnt do it against the best crap' also doesnt stand up.

What other 'footballing' reasons are they and how would you like me to make you look like a ****ing moron.......oh sorry, there is no need for me to do that when you're and expert at doing it yourself.

Its like Belgium not selecting Kompany for a major game, or Pique not going with Spain to the Euros.

  19. Jones can also cover at CB. We should just forget about Ferdinand. He's more interested in making comedy programs and movies anyway. I tend to agree that Kelly is a strange call, but lets see how he does.

UnitedInRed - what are you tailing about ? Evans was better than Ferdinand, Ferdinand is average Terry has had a decent season. While Ferdinand was "trying" to get you a title Terry "got" Chelsea the champion League. I'd have Terry in my team any time instead of Ferdinand who gets mugged off all the time. Terry had a handful of bad games but was immense at other times. AVB's tactics didn't help Chelsea, they were a different team under Di Matteo - who made them play a more defensive game. Chelsea stood up under examination.
