Well he's not been a great signing overall, and was on ridiculous wages.

But I think he played very well in the Championship, in fact he was one of my favourite players in the early stages of the CC season. He put in some solid performances.

He did a decent job at times.

He's apparently in talks with MK Dons. I personally think he'd do a job in the CC, but if MK Dons offer him a good contract to run out the years, then I wish Smithy all the best.

He was a player to be feared when he lined up for Leeds, but never got over his terrible injury at Man U.

Really can't believe he went from a striker to a defensive midfielder rofl.

Big hearted player and always gave his best even after a horrendous accident that most players wouldn't have even tried to come back from.

He didn't force anybody at gun point to pay him massive wages and took what he was offered like most people would have done.

He maybe didn't have the ability but he had the heart.
    Cheers Alan.

He was key in getting us promoted. Always gave 100 percent and never sherked a challenge. It's because of players like him that we're back in the premier league

I remember hearing a story about Alan whilst he was at man utd. Apparently he was the only player too train with the kids after all the other players had gone home

Sounds like the kind of thing he would have done, totally committed and prepared to help others along the way.

I'll admit I've been hard on him, mainly for the £60k he was collecting in the reserves but I suppose that's not really his fault.

Didn't recover fully from his horrific injury but that he came back at all was a miracle, even if it was at a Championship level.

Feel he may struggle a bit in the second tier, League One may be a better way to wind down his playing career.

He wants to get into coaching doesn't he?

Euphemisms of today: "He never sherked (sic) a challenge" = He was a nasty bit of work who never minded hurting an opponent. Alan Smith: what a cnut.

Got a good friend who is a MK Dons fan. They were always moaning that he didn't do enough running around, kept passing the ball to where nobody was and generally moaning that he thought he was too good for them. He may have come in for lots of stick through the years but not putting in a shift was never one of them. I pointed out that passing the ball to where nobody was is probably what you call passing he ball into space and that not running around as much as everyone else might have been down to having a bit of experience and a decent footballing brain to not just chase the ball. I think he might be too good for League One, though having said that Karl Robinson picked him every week so maybe he could still see what the fans couldn't.
