Apparently Martin Kelly of Liverpool has been brought in to replace him making Phil Jones a CB in Hodgsons team

    That Mertens should be shot

Gary Cahill: Ruled out of Euro 2012 with a double fracture of his jaw

England defender Gary Cahill has been ruled out of Euro 2012 with a double fracture of his jaw with Liverpool's Martin Kelly called up.

Cahill suffered the injury during England's 1-0 win over Belgium on Saturday after he was pushed into goalkeeper Joe Hart by Dries Mertens in the early stages of the game at Wembley.

The Chelsea defender underwent a scan after the game before undergoing a second scan on Sunday morning which has confirmed Roy Hodgson's worst fears.

Cahill joins Frank Lampard, Gareth Barry and John Ruddy in being forced out of Hodgson's plans because of injury.

As a result of Cahill's injury, Hodgson has called up Liverpool stopper Kelly into his squad with the versatile defender making his debut just last weekend against Norway.

There was better news regarding John Terry's fitness after he picked up a hamstring injury against Belgium.

Terry has been given the all-clear after undergoing a scan on Sunday and he will remain part of the squad.

An FA statement read: "Gary Cahill has been withdrawn from England's Euro 2012 squad following the injury he suffered in the match against Belgium.

"The Chelsea defender has two fractures of his jaw, one either side. The

England medical team have been in close contact overnight with Cahill's club

doctors who will treat him moving forward.

"Liverpool defender Martin Kelly will be called into the squad - subject to

agreement from UEFA's medical team. Kelly trained with the England players last

week and was part of the group that travelled to Norway.

"John Terry has been scanned this morning and given the all-clear. He will be

re-assessed on Tuesday when the team regroup."

This - if the FA hadn't come up with that rubbish about him being not fit to play consecutive games they ould have picked him easily - but now they have backed hemselves in to that particlar corner they are stuffed. There has got to be better alternatives to Kelly though

Roy has hung himself for me.

3 chances to call up Richards, who should have been a shoe in, now we have a woefully under paced pack of CB's and a right back who can't tackle.

I hate to be the firestarter, and only a matter of hours ago i stated 'whatever happens is not down to Roy'.

It is now, and he has ****ed up massive time, 3 times, even before the tournament.

I can't believe Mertens is not getting more stick over his , what he did to Cahill was way out of order, ffs it was a friendly . Because of his mass stupidity he has put a young player out of a major tournament. Hodgson has proved in a couple of weeks what many have thought from the start, the FA has appointed a yes man someone they can manipulate at any given moment . There are too many players in the squad who not done enough during the season to merit a place, Johnson ,Henderson, Kelly, Milner, Downing .

Ridiculous decision. I am in no way backing my next statement here but Danny Simpson would surely be a better option than Kelly. I'm not saying he should be picked but using him as an example of how poor our selection process has been. He's played nearly every game this season and Kelly has played like 10. I don't even rate Simpson that highly but I rate him more than Kelly. As already mentioned, the natural pick for me is Richards. Hodgson must have a screw loose. Kelly man FFS.

Cahill was shielding a ball back to Joe Hart and this little prick gave Cahill a 2 handed push with enough force to launch Cahill into Hart resulting in a double fracture of the jaw.

I understand now that Richards said he wouldn't go on the standby list which is why he wasn't available to be picked - I don't know who is advising him but he should get rid given that he is meant to be at the beginning of his international career.

We now have to hope that Phil Jones doesn't get injured since according to Roy he is playing in midfield, right back and centre back.

Far too many Liverpool players in this squad now, especially given what a rubbish season they all had
