Betting on the next Swans manager position was suspended on Friday when Graeme Jones was thought to be an almost certainty for the job. But betting is now open again on Betfair and others. And Jones' odds are drifting. In the last few hours he's gone from odds-on favorite to 127/100. And the person who's odds have shortened the most is Michael Laudrup. He was way out in the betting but is now 53/10. Odds for Poyet and Holloway are also drifting. All this seems to suggest that there is some doubt over Jones getting the job, but that no other candidate is an obvious choice. Perhaps the Jones interview didn't go too well and people are now trying to figure out who to back. But the Daily Mail are reporting that Jones is expected to be unveiled as manager early next week. This seems a bit premature according to the current betting. This is just like when Martinez was interviewed for the Liverpool job. He was favorite with the bookies, but not strongly backed at all. It seems like people just don't believe that Jones will get the job. So is Michael Laudrup the man who will pip him at the post, just like Rodgers beat Martinez to the job? Or will our next manager be a complete surprise. A bit too early to say, but keep your eyes on those odds this weekend. You will definitely find out who the next manager will be before it's officially announced. For Ash's benefit - yes, it's pure speculation. I know that, so no need to post a comment telling me that it is.
Jones still odds on this morning and unfortunately Laudrup has drifted a little. Holloway and Poyet still up there and Sven Goran inching his way up. SGE not for me though.
I have just read on Wikipedia (not the beat source I know) about laudrup's managerial career. He sounds very disloyal and stubborn. Have a look. Refused to sign a few contracts, walked out on a couple of clubs an apparently requesting some ridicoulous clauses. Not what we need! I'm sure huw will pick wisely though
Laudrup sounds like another Sousa to me tbh... I base this on nothing mind you, just the impression I get. Hmmmm...
Interesting read, and his managerial and playing credentials are top notch, though he does have some history with club chairman? maybe too strong a personality for Jenkins me thinks! Shame but you never know........................
Jones now a dead duck apparently. If the Swansea/ Rodgers appointment teaches us anything it's pay no attention to the bookies!
