Sunderpit - that little essay really plucked on my heartstrings and my oft neglected socialist conscience. Very very well said - all your own ?

Don't elevate yourself to the position of realist unless you can substantiate why we need monarch or president.

God bless Polly Toynbee. My heroine.

TBH, I don't mind the Queen and think she does a lot of good and I just love Phil the Greek. I'm not really a royalist but neither anti and yes, I will have the river thing and concert on in the background.

Well I will be going to a jubilee celebration party on Sunday decked out in red, white and blue. However, this is more to do with supporting a friend who has made the effort rather than any strong feelings of loyalty to the Queen. However, I do hold the opinion that the Queen, and a small number of prominant members of her family, generate more money for the nation than what they take out of it. The Queen also went up in my estimations when it became known that she couldn't stand the sight of Thatcher..

And its a known FACT that she is from good mackem stock, do you notice the Royal colours, red, white and blue, no black.

I'm sure some will mock this but I know its true, blue represents her blue blood and red and white her mackem ancestry. Her great, great, great uncle was a deputy at Wearmouth pit and her great, great, great cousin was treasurer at Southwick WMC, fact I tell you.

Waste of time and effort the lot of them. Let the people of Newcastle continue their support of the monarchy and gain advantage from their royal charter for coal/shipbuliding. The mackems oppose the royals lest not forget that and even today newc gets everything because of its royal connections. **** them and sunderland should not even have any jubilee celebrations imo. Tantamount to betraying history.

Good lad. I hope you're getting straight down to London. There are plenty of jobs going if you look hard enough and speak to enough people. Got your book put together/found an Art Director?

Now it would be exceedingly foolish to suggest for one moment that not606 is typical of the attitude towards the royal family. But it is obvious without being 'off with their headish' I am not alone in wishing they would just go away and that the BBC etc. do not express the sentiments of a large chunk of the British People who think like me!

Yes, she will be queing up at the food tent any minute, waiting for her Bratwurst, Feldkieker, Milbenkäse and Brotzeit, all washed down with a glass of Riesling to the tune of her forefathers der Deutschlandlied.

Failing that, her feckless husband, or the racist penniless Greek, will whip up a nice Meze for everyone?

Yes how all very British indeed!!!!!!
