Holt: Don't Villa have Bent and Agbongalor (spelling sry), so he wouldn't be guaranteed a starting place anyway. Lambert: door is open, still our manager, let him talk, worst thing is to have a disgrunted manager, better to let him arrive at the same conclusions that Martinez and OGS came to @ Villa, that it isn't as good an offer, as portrayed in the media.
I dont really get it. Maybe he think thats if he sells players he will have substancially more money or funds for wages and he can attract bigger named players? I assume this will put an end to the Snodgrass rumours.... he will probably end up at Villa now!
Ambition with Villa, quite possibly even less money for transfers than he gets now. As for Holt ambition most clubs that would be prepared to take him on he'd be on the bench
I think its the same as a phone contract ........................you get the chance to UPGRADE every few years........
Villa went through last season with hardly any players, no strikers and no transfer money to spend as MON had already spent it all. whoever takes on that job is going to find life tough in the EPL and even tougher still when they drop into the championship. why lambert isn't happy with no pressure on him at norwich, as opposed to getting the sack when villa finish below norwich in the league, I don't know. it certainly explains holt's transfer request though, as lambert probably wants him as striker at villa.
I would have accepted it had he gone to Liverpool, I just don't get going to villa. They finished below us in the table, are reportedly £50m in debt and have a squad in need of a desperate overhaul. Villa are an established pl team but without serious investment, which doesn't appear forthcoming, they will struggle again next season in my opinion. West brom would be a far better equipped outfit to go to, again just my opinion. I am eternally grateful for what he has done for us and would always wish him well. I just feel that if he has gone to villa, he has made the wrong decision. Unless they have promised severe funds to improve the squad. I hope that we can keep culverhouse though, haven't heard a thing on his position in all this debacle. I sincerely hope we move for Malky now, he has done a great job at Watford and Cardiff and was a very popular player when he was here. Unless my memory deceives, didn't he also state he would like to manage us one day?
I think this is a slight misinterpretation of what's been released in the press today. Lambert IS/WAS happy at Norwich. However, he wanted to hear what Villa had to offer- the Norwich board didn't even want that, so he offered his resignation as basically a statement to say "look, I want to hear them out". This is not him saying he is unhappy or anything like that. The Holt stuff is a bit more opaque- not sure what's going on there, but judging by his tweet last night he really wants to stick with Lambert. Judging by Pilkington's tweets though, most players have been kept in the dark as much as us.
Sorry I don't buy that for a second. If Lambert was happy here he wouldn't have resigned end of. He is not a little child - he is not going to hand in a resignation over something relatively trivial as the Villa job unless he wanted it. Let's not be deluded here, just like any sane person wouldn't resign from their job in a similar situation!
No that's not true at all- you can be happy but want more. It is far from childish to want to listen to potentially better offers- that is good commercial sense. If you are happy in your job, but then receive a better offer, you will want to move. Of course, you run the risk of not being happy, so it has to be MUCH better to offset the risk, but you'll still want to hear them out. I have no reason to believe that Lambert lied when he said he loved it here. What he did not say was that he felt he could fulfil his ambitions here. These are two mutually exclusive concepts. As I mentioned above- the board ahve rejected his resignation so they clearly are happy to have him back if the Villa talks fall through, ergo their relationship has not been broken irreperably
Wait, let me get this straight? You are saying offering to resign is NOT a massive overreaction to something as relatively trivial as being denied permission to speak to Villa?
Absolutely not. [EDIT] By which I mean you are exactly right- this is not a massive overreaction. This is a perfectly reasonable reaction from a director/employer of a large company. I should explain- this is contract law and negotiation. The ONLY thing that Lambert has to bargain with when the club turns him down is threatening to leave. Lambert knows that if they reject his resignation, he can still stay on next year. This is perfectly natural. In other words, by handing in his resignation and Norwich rejecting it, Lambert is in a win-win situation- he can now listen to the Villa offer denied to him before because of the threat of breaking contract BUT if he doesn't like their terms he can continue as Norwich manager. Of course, the risk for Lambert was that the board would accept his resignation, but they will have discussed this. I should emphasise- this is commercial contracts and employment law. My area. This is normal. It is not an "overreaction". That is the Sun and their stories of arugments massively over-egging it to get a story.
david mcnally ‏in twitter just now: @davidmcnally62 One tweet often leads to another! None of our senior players are for sale.
and that is what I was trying to put across this morning but you did so rather more eloquently than I
is this the reason for holt also handing in a request? as viewing this from a far personally i believe holt caught wind of lambert leaving and put in a request early and will join him at villa.
Make your minds up lads, one minute Villa are a dead end club with an awful squad and heading nowhere fast and the next minute they've got a top class strike force. Don't think Holty will be following him anywhere, though I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if he ended up at Sunderland.
