Newsflash: Almost all of our best players are still under contract INCLUDING HOLT. They don't say when they leave outside of that contract, the club does!

Now Guru, you were being reasonable and sensible. You are now trying to get a reaction.

You have no idea why Lambert/Holt wants/wanted to leave, just like the rest of us. From what I've heard and read, Holt wanted a longer contract.

Oh ffs, honestly. Look most of our squad are under contract. IF PL leaves and then wants to take some with him then it's going to cost villa DEARLY, Norwich will set the price and I expect it will be very very high for every player unless the new manager decides they're surpluss to requirements, end of!

No hard feelings toward Paul Lambert, but I don't think he should stay. The stability of NCFC is the most important thing, and we won't have that if, every time there is a managerial vacancy, the whole 'will he, won't he' circus starts all over again.

Why? After all he defected to you lot even though McNally approached Steve Tilson of Southend first back in August 2009. ;) :)

Not ‘accepting’ Lambert’s resignation means absolutely nothing, for Villa can appoint him without negotiating compensation because they know the only come back will be a £75,000 fine, which is loose change to a multi-billionaire like Randy Lerner. <laugh>

If Lambert wants to take any of his former charges to Villa Park, he will go get them from you at bargain basement prices. Targeted players’ handing in transfer requests is only the mildest type of shenanigans Lambert will instigate in cahoots with the players agents to destabilize you budgies. <ok>

I doubt very much his relationship with the board is damaged beyond reconcilliation, both parties understand the reasons. I'm still not certain he'll go, the resignation thing was just because he was forced into a corner, not because of any underlying need to leave.

If he does go then good luck to him, I can fully understand why. Villa a much, much bigger side than us. We are no comparison in terms of stature, last years league positions (I think) is irrelevent to Lambert.

Lets just get Culverhouse in the hot seat, he's got to go for it surely if offered. Go on mcNally, we can see then just how good Lambert really is without his right hand man.

What rich44 has said from the beginning is the only way to look at this.

Lambert has only ever been honest with us- when he hasn't wanted to say something, he just says nothing at all. He is/was evidently very happy at Norwich. BUT, he wanted/wants to hear what Villa have to offer. This makes perfect sense- the Norwich board were refusing to even let Villa contact him, the only bargaining tool Lambert has is to offer his resignation, just like Holt's only tool was a transfer request, they have nothing else.

McNally would not have refused to accept the resignation if their relationship was damaged irreparably.

Ultimately, we now know that if Villa make a decent enough offer, Lambert will be going. Fine and fair enough to him- otherwise he never would have known. I suspect that there is more going on behind the scenes though, because of the rejections Villa have received... Fat Lady singing and all that.

As for our best players- rich44 has it again. Even if we do sell, it will be because it is an offer we can't refuse. I.e., it will be well worth it and will give our next manager more to invest. Great news and, let's face it, how football works- the bigger clubs poach smaller clubs' players (see Feeds United).

I'll quote McNally: "If other clubs want our players, we're obviously doing something right".

I see all of this as exciting. Sad to see Lambert go as I think he is a far better manager than Rodgers and quite possibly the most tactically astute manager in the league now, but he has left us in such a fantastic position we can't do anything but thank him- he won't leave unless the Villa offer is good enough.

Sorry that seems a little deluded to me. Lambert said he was happy here after Drury testimonial, but he was aware he was wanted at Villa and wants to be at Villa hence he resigned. As I said on another thread, anyone who thinks that this offer of resignation is a protest that he wasn't allowed to speak to Villa is SERIOUSLY ****ING DELUDED. It means he wants out of the club, that may be hard to take but now we must move on.

~Sorry, I think we're not being clear about what I'm saying and what you're saying.

    - You are saying he wants to speak to Villa- I am agreeing.
    - You are saying because he wants to speak to Villa, he is not happy here- I am disagreeing. I am saying that he wants to speak to Villa because he is not sure he can fulfil his ambitions at Norwich and wants to hear what they have to say.
    - Lambert never said he thought he could fulfil his ambitions at Norwich. He only said he loved it. That does not mean that he wouldn't leave if a much better offer came around.

I am not seriously ****ing deluded and I think you need to tone it down- I am talking about professionals thinking commercially and selfishly. The problem in your post is the highlighted part- he does not necessarily want to be at Villa. He wants to hear what they have to say to decide. Without offering his resignation he would not even be allowed to hear. These are two totally different things.

If everything was rosy at the club between Lambert and everyone else we wouldn't be in this situation, end of.

he is a ambitious man and will play whatever game is necessary to succeed. Fans want to believe different things about their players and managers, but the notion of loyalty is long gone in today's game. Support the club rather than it's small constituent parts is my view.

Thank you someone sees it at last. None of this bullshit that Lambert wanted to feel his options and so handed a request because we denied him permission. He wanted out and that's that.
