Could there be a late twist?

"Liverpool stalling over compensation fee for Rodgers" sky sources

I can't see it all falling through at this stage but stranger things have happened!

Hope it goes through. As you say strange things happen but I can't see you lot welcoming him back now so it's probably best something is agreed.

  4. I can't see it falling through at his stage, especially when the difference is between £0.5m and £1m. Seems daft but happy that FSG are fighting to save money <ok>

  5. I reckon tmost Swansea fans would welcome him back. He as done very well for their club and no one would bregrudge a player or manager progressing in their career. With all due respect intended and ignoring the quality of play this season, Liverpool are a step up from Swansea.

I think the appointment of Rodgers as Liverpool manager is a very shrewd move and one that I think will pay huge dividends in the future.

If you've got a minute, please read my blog on the matter and leave comments with your thoughts...

    http://offsidevista.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/rodgers-blessing-to-liverpool.html

I'm going to try and publish a new blog everyday so if you think what I have to say is valid, please return to 'offside vista' for more of my thoughts and ideas on the game.

Why do people appear to consider that Rodgers will attempt to change the club wholesale into a replica of Barca? If this guy truly has the abilities as a coach that he is being lauded for then he will adapt the playing style to fit the players that he has. He will also have noted the memesis of Tiki-Taka as provided by both Chelsea and his experiences in charge of Swansea.

There are a number of things already in place which will be of assistance to Rodgers. Kenny took us back to the culture of Pass And Move which is not a million miles removed from Tiki-Taka. Combining the best elements of each may well prove very fruitful. Both Rafa and Kenny paid attention to our Academy and the youth development processes. A production line has already been established for him.

I look forward to seeing how this whole new managerial episode works out.

Wasn't necessarilly presuming he'd try and invoke an exact replica but the philosophies are undoubtedly similar, good passing, technique, mobility and a lot of bloody hard work not sure if it'll be a continental slant on a British style or a British slant on a continental style but will be interesting to see if he can pull it off either way. He definitely seems to have a reputation for youth development too so could bode well for a few of the younger squad members.

  12. I don't think anyone is saying we will replicate Barcelona, they are simply the pinnacle of passing football. This is based on the fact that Swansea played passing football as did we, albeit, at different quality levels. With Liverpool supposedly having better players than Swansea, and Barcelona clearly having better players than both, there must be a intermediate somewhere in-between. That does not mean we copy the Swansea or Barcelona blueprint, it simply means we will try and play passing football in our own way that will hopefully make us a better team than Swansea but nor do we expect to be as good as Barcelona.

I think Rodgers has a very clear idea about how the game should be played and he will try to get Liverpool playing to his methods. That method though is attacking football, getting the ball down and playing so it may not be exactly what we are used to but it may be different. I don't have a problem with this change at all.

We already were a better team than Swansea but haven't been as good as Barca for a long while.

I wasn't having a pop at you or Billy but at the media comment that is being pumped-out. Like both of you I truly hope that we create a new Liverpool system that combines the best of both styles whilst overcoming the flaws - then we would be truly unbeatable! I'm also prepared for this style to evolve.

    flaws in all this:

    1. no matter who is in charge they have to deal with gerrard situation.

    2. they need to retire carragher.

    3. they must deal with suarez and what get gets up to. (its not going to go away)

    4. they have to get about 6 players in.

aspirations to a style of football are moot as ambramovich fired many men including mourinho to get said football and end up winning the cl via 11 men back and pens..... aspire to what you want to but every match must see the maximum return from what we've got... a 1-0 from a route one flick on gets as many points as a 5-0 and messi style hat trick. if we've got carroll and not messi you can't expect miracles

Dave I'm getting fed up of you not having a pop at me <laugh>

The interesting thing with his appointment is that at least we can live in hope of what he MAY bring <whistle>

looking at the Swansea team, Carroll fits right in, Danny Graham is similar to him.

    Taking your points in order:

    1. Gerrard In normal circumstances the question would be sell this year or next? But these are not normal circumstances. Like it or not we need Gerrard in the short term as we have nobody of the same skill level to replace him with and any replacement would be very costly indeed. I believe that Kenny wanted to play him in the 'hole' behind Carroll and Suarez but circumstances meant that this was rarely possible. In that position I truly believe that we could see a re-invigorated Steve Gerrard. Therefore I think that we should retain him whilst seeking an understudy.

    2. Carragher. I doubt that anybody apart from Carra would argue with you. Here we already have cover - in numbers at least.

    3. Suarez. His performance this season will be under very close scrutiny. He will however still be the 'star' of the show.

    4. 6 Players. I don't believe that we need that many. My guestimate would be about 4.

Even under Kenny we were able to dominate sides and create enough chances to hit the woodwork 33 times! We are already far more than a 1-0 win via a flick-on.

So it looks as if you have appointed '3 yard pass' Rogers, I know I am only a lowly Sunderland fan, but frankly I would have been unhappy with him for Sunderland. I am still not sure what was wrong with KK?? Why did he have to be sacked?
