My personal opinion is that this stinks. I've had to do my bit and don't have a final salary pension in the private sector any more so what puts them above everyone else?

We all have to do our bit to get the country out of the mire it is in so aloof attitudes like this make me sick.

By the way the chairman of the BMA, Dr Meldrum used to be my GP and an alright kind of guy once upon a time.......

    Rant over.

    A bit surprised about that.

I thought there was something about the welfare of the people that came first with doctors and nursing staff.

The pensions PROMISED to all public service workers are no different to anything you go to the shop to purchase. These pensions have been effectively sold to these workers and they have paid their agreed price to have them and they are part of the terms and conditions of that job which attracted that worker to that job in the first place. How would anyone feel if sold something then told years later that well actually now you are going to have to accept less than that and worse still will have to pay more and pay longer to get that reduced return. Not very happy i bet.
The tory led argument comparing those pensions to those in the private sector is irrelevant. The fact is that this is what they were sold and agreed to and now the torys are reneging on that long held agreement.
Workers and Unions have fought long and hard to get these benefits for ordinary working people to give them a decent standard of life in retirement comparable to their working life wages for years in both private and public sectors and this should not be eroded by the union and ordinary worker hating tories.
Lets not forget that the same tories not so long ago were bleating on about how workers needed to provide more for themselves in retirement (something they omit to mention now) yet are now on a crusade to take away a lot of these things from those who have actually done just that.
Dont be conned by the lying cheating thieving tories.
The doctors are striking to an absolute bare minimum and what else do you suggest they do to fight for their rights?

This, perhaps I'm biased as my Dad's a doctor (I don't know what way he voted) but at the end of the day, if you are sold something, you should receive it...How about going to DFS and getting 2/3rds of a sofa for 8 weeks more payment installments! Granted the recession hits everyone, but similarly, everyone has the right to protest - if a bin man can do it, why can't a doctor?

It doesn't stink at all - I've been a civil servant for 22 years and it has always been the case that our rate of pay(and the work) is ****e but this is made up for by having a decent pension.

Oh and by the way it took me 18 years to get from my starting pay to my max pay - the bastards kept shifting the pay scale goal posts every few years - at on point it was going to take 666 years for me to get to my max pay ffs! ah **** and when was the last time i got a pay rise? tbh i'm fooked if i can remember!

Now we are having the terms of our contract that we signed when we were employed changed without our consent!

Do you think any of our players would be best pleased if Mike came along and said "Oh, by the way chaps - you know that £40k a week you are on? It's not £40k any more - it's £10k, now shut up and get on with your job!" they would be well pissed off don't you think?

I think you will find that the tories are using the recession as an excuse to live out their fantasies of bringing the hammer down very hard on the working classes - they are truly a bunch of lying thieving bastards!
