Rodgers has signed a 3 year deal to become Liverpool's new manager - all we need now is for Martinez to join Villa (or OGS) According to Daily Mirror with Liverpool Cooling towards Martinez, the Wigan Boss has let it be known he'll consider the Villa Job
Its based on one line with no quotes saying Villa have made contact with Lamberts representatives. So nothing new at all, I imagine most people thought this has or would happen anyway.
I remember saying when you got promoted that you would do well and that Lambert would get poached by a bigger club like Villa (I may actually be right for once) although I expected Villa to be a damn sight better than they were last season and you guys to stay up by the skin of your teeth, I know all us town fans harp on about Lambert leaving which he inevitably will, but I honestly think he needs another season with you guys as too often managers (and players) jump at the opportunity to gain some more money and prestige and in the long run it doesn't work out, if he keeps you up for another season then he deserves his big move to a bigger club but I personally feel he should stay (which conflicts with my prediction of you being absolute toot without him and spiralling back down to the CCC) so I suppose what I'm saying is I'd like to see you stay up for another year..... But I would just say Villa are still quite appealing I would imagine, Mcgleish got them playing dreadful football and put them firmly into a rut but I fancy a good manger would turn that around and get some of the quality of Bent, Agbonlahor, Ireland, Warnock etc. playing to a mid table standard so it's a difficult one for Lambert to weigh up
Pat Murphy the highly respected BBC football reporter who covers the Midlands reckons the Villa job is between Martinez and Lambert. Pat Murphy reckons that Lambert will be favourite simply because of the fact that Martinez turned them down last summer. Now before I get slated I am only repeating what I heard on the radio!
I can understand they have him as favourite, but that's only because of 1. People are putting money on him at the bookies and so would make him favourite with the odds and 2. Because they want him, and at the end of the day who could blame them. But the fact remains they are a ticking time bomb and are soon going to go bang. Theyre must be a reason why OGS and for a 2nd time Martinez has turned them down!?
Lambert doesn't strike me as someone who will take a job as their second choice, maybe he has been approached already and knocked them back, but even if they have not made an approach and it's offered to Lambert can you really see him taking it when he was not their original target?
so all this would make PL they're 3rd choice - after OGS and martinez didn't fancy it. in no way is PL going to be anyones third choice. breathe easy peoples. makes villa look a bit silly all this...turned down by two managers who to my mind would leap at the chance - so why aren't they? martinez would prefer to stay with wigan than go to villa - says it all...
I did predict a while back villa might look a little "Wolves-esque" at some point in their managerial pursuit. Just wait for curbishley to turn them down, and its mission accomplished.
Villa fans on Twitter are saying that Sky Sports said that they expect him to be named boss within seven days. Did they say that?
This comes from a third party as I don't have Sky, but evidently SSN are reporting just now that Lambert is to be named Villa boss within the next seven days ? Can anyone confirm ?
So, let the search for a new boss begin and watch lambert screw his promising career up for a few years! I dont want malky because of his playing connections. brum are asking for 2.5mil for hughton. di matteo anyone???
Woah. There is a long way to go before we have to think about a new manager. We have to agree to let him have talks, and then Lambert will have to agree to sign for them. My gut instinct is he will not be happy about being 3rd choice and will not even talk to them.
