"Giving evidence from behind a screen, the woman said that she agreed to share a taxi with him after leaving the Cross Keys nightclub.

During the journey he tried to kiss her and put his hand up her dress, but she told him to leave her alone, the jury heard.

She said he told the taxi driver to take them back to his home in Wynyard, near Middlesbrough, but she said she wanted to go straight back to her own home.

The court was told he then "grabbed" her hand and "put it on her crotch", at which point she became "really scared".

Instead of taking the pair to Mr Bramble's home, the taxi driver drove to a police station and, once inside, his alleged victim locked herself in a toilet and refused to leave until the player was led away by officers, prosecutors told the court."



This isn't a Bramble slagging thread. Innocent til proven guilty, etc.

This is a word of admiration for the taxi driver.

It would have been very easy for him to decide it wasn't his problem. It would have been easy to be afraid of a 6' 2" powerfuly built man in the back of his cab.

He may have been scared, but he did decide it was his responsibility to help a young woman who he clearly felt was in trouble, and he showed considerable intiative in taking them directly to the olice station.

Good man.

 

If it's true then good man, but I don't like cases where the only evidence is eye witness accounts because you could basically say anything.

I'm not going to say anything.

 

That makes a change.

Maybe its a deal between the woman and the driver, to set Bramble up and get some money out of him.

You never know these days.

 

None of us know for sure as none of us were there, so it's just heresay and best to let drop.

 

How sad that many people think like you these days!

But in reality, there have been many cases like this one that have just been about someone getting their 5 mins or someone trying to get money out of the accused / selling their stories to the press.

I'm as much of a fan of scepticism as the next man, but this does seem a pretty dubious suggestion.

First, neither has had their 5 minutes - - we don't knos their names.

Neither has sold their story to the press - - see above.

There is no suggestion that anyone has asked Bramble for money. Also, getting Bramble to invite her to share a cab and then arrange to have that cab be driven by someone involved in a conspiracy to extort wouldn't be the simplest thing to manage.

Which is not to say that Bramble is guilty of a crime. There may be history to the relationship with the complainant and the taxi driver may have misinterpreted what was going on in the back of his taxi. Regardless [and extortion theory aside] trying to do the right thing deserves a small round of applause.

He's pictured coming out of court with his solicitor, I thought it was his girlfriend, whilst she may have legs that seem to go all the way up to her neck, she looks cheap and unprofessional, must be good at her job though, she got him off,......... what do I know!
