He has been ruled out of Euro 2012 because of a groin injury. Replaced by Phil Jagielka. IMO, Barry had a good season with Manchester City and I think he will be missed. Also, now we are left with only three natural CM's. Lampard,Gerrard and Parker.

It has made the squad rather unbalanced considering he has bought in another defender. I imagine he would see Milner and maybe Jones as midfield coven if required. At least he did not bring in Henderson! Could be problems considering Parkers fitness and Gerrard has had his fair share of injuries. Seems odd not having a CM come in considering he will most likely play 4-2-3-1

Phil Jones into midfield? He's better here than he is at right back and with his energy, he'll add some positive running into the middle.

Problem with playing Jones is he would have to change the system a bit. He does not have the discipline to sit in that position that Barry has, although he would offer more going forward so may not be a bad thing.

    I'm so happy about this.

Now we just need Downing and Carroll to get injured.

I can't say I'm disappointed to be honest. I have to say he has had a very good season even though I've never rated him. But given the nature of our season I think he suffers more than most in terms of physical tiredness. He is not the most naturally athletic lad so needs to be at his optimum. Watching England it looks like the same old problem to me. We looked a team that was mentally and physically tired. We need a winter break badly.

If it was October I'd fancy to cruise through the group. As it is I think it'll be a grind again. Maybe that will see the penny finally drop in terms of tiredness but I'm not holding my breath

I echo the "Thank God it's not Henderson" sentiments, however it just goes to show what a ridiculous decision it was to make him backup although admittedly Hodgson wasn't helped by Carrick being a twat.

1 down and 2 to go...

Only downside to the other 2 being injured (Downing and Carroll) is no doubt Henderson will then be added which is outrageous.

Regarding Barry should of never played for England after being humiliated in the WC against Ozil.

Michael Carrick should be going! But he has missed out because he can't be arsed sitting on the bench which for me is a sad state of affairs when England players dont want to be a part of big tournaments! I still cant understand how Jagielka is going in place of Barry either!

It balances the number of defenders and midfielders. Previously there were too many midfielders so this was an opportunity to get another defender in the squad.
