I think if the club wasn't changing it's ways from those that sent us down, whilst I wouldn't 'leave', there'd be a good chance I'd lose some interest being honest, since Spartans would then be playing at a similar level.

Though the English leagues are all connected, as it stands supporting Newcastle and Blyth feels like following two clubs in different league systems since realistically, their respective results will never have influence on eachother. If Newcastle were then competing at a similar level then things would change and I'd be forced to ask myself serious questions. If it ever came to it, were Newcastle and Blyth in direct competition, being born and raised in Blyth I'd feel duty bound to cheer on the green and white.

Thankfully, I doubt I'll ever be made to choose. In saying that, the recent Northumbria Seniors Cup final between the two clubs was weird for me. I was sat in green and white, chanting with the Spartan army but I still respectfully clapped each of the Toon reserves goals as they completely outclassed us. Disappointed to miss out on a trophy but couldn't pick a better club to lose to. <ok>

Wasn't the game of soccer named after him?

The only people that leave teams are the plastics, the ones that support the winning teams no matter where they come from. If Man Utd started to drop away do you think they'd keep all their London based (supposed) fans?

Real fans keep going to the games to support their teams no matter what. Sure, everybody would love to be winners all the time, but when Saturday comes, you get your colours on and go into town feeling on top of the world.

Best line I've read on the subject (though written from a London perspective) is:

"Divorce is possible. If things get bad enough you can just stop going to the matches. But there's no prospect of re-marriage. You won't find any Arsenal supporters out for a little extra marital slap and tickle down at White Hart Lane."
