QPR joins race for AIYEGBENI QUEENS Park Rangers (QPR) has joined the chase for Yakubu Aiyegbeni after the Nigeria international indicated his wish to leave Blackburn Rovers following their relegation from the English Premier League. Yak's contract with Blackburn has not expired, but it is believed to contain a relegation clause that would allow him to join a new club this summer for around £2 million. The former Everton and Portsmouth man, who scored 18 goals this season, is happy at Blackburn, but concedes he does not want to play in the Championship next season. "I still have two years left with Blackburn, but I played in the Championship before. It was good but I don't want to play there again. In football, you never know what is going to be, but Blackburn really has been a part of me. "I felt at home there but we'll see what is going to happen. I think it's too early to say whether I'll be moving on. I may be in the Championship. I may be in the Premier League," Yak said. QPR - who has money to spend and a need for goal scorers, just as newly promoted Reading and Southampton are on the trail of Aiyegbeni. If the QPR discussion falls through, Aiyegbeni will teamup with compatriot, Taye Taiwo. However, Blackburn are bracing themselves for bids for a number of their top stars following their drop into the Championship and top scorer Yakubu is sure to attract interest. http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/football-golf-boxing/48035-qpr-joins-race-for-aiyegbeni.html
i picked up on that. We will be linked with everything and everyone before the season starts. I reckon MH knows exactly who he want's and some signings will surprise us because they will be names that we would never have guessed. i will enjoy the summer and not worry about it because this season coming will be better for us.
This for me. We don't really need to sign anymore African based players. The ACON is a real hindrance.
Dont want majority of our summer signings to come from just relegated clubs. That would bring bad karma to the team.
See the thread about ACON. African players, usually via France and some with dual nationality, are way better value than overpriced British equivalents. I hope we sign more, and would trust the management team not only to recognize the problems ACON may pose but also to be able to plan for it.
Nowt but speculation in that snippet. Having said that, Yakubu's exactly the kind of player we need to complement Cisse as a proven goal scorer (ACoN or not).
Wouldn't want him. Think he just had a good season, scored half of his goals in 3 matches didn't he? Also looked pretty average when I saw him in the championship (Leicester?). No thanks Yakkkkkkk.
i think we should wait and see who mh signs, we seem to be after every player around, all so the press reckons
No, hes officially 29 but more likely 33-35 and we dont need any more ageing players. As above, sign Hoilett and we have the potential for his value to rise, sign Yakubu and he could be another Bothroyd, DJ, Vine, Cook, Rowlands who no one would take for free if he doesnt perform.
I know it's all crazy mad speculation but I'm wondering why all these players we're linked with are forwards. All areas of the team need improving but a goalie, defenders and midfiield players are where most improvement in quality and depth are needed imo
Words cannot discribe the anger I feel, so I won't be bothering with a long winded tirade this time. He's utter ****, watched him play for everton and laughed my arse off. If serious - sack MH now!!!!! Taiwo and Diakite we sold to us a definate deals if we survived. We're being fed horse **** again.
