GFCSTU Just found out the blood / alcohol count for McCormick - some time after the crash ( some alcohol would have dissipated before a control sample was taken .) He had at least more than twice the legal limit for driving. This is a considerable quantity of alcohol - hardly a situation where he could have been mistaken into thinking he was under the limit. The sentence he got was ( in todays society ) quite sustantial ( people guilty of other types of killings often receive much less.) On one hand he has served his punishment ( and I would like to think that he did not mean to drive in such a way as to hurt / kill anyone ) - but on the flip side it is understandable to feel that he should never again see the light of day. He was irresponsible in getting into his car.How can anyone use alcohol as mitigation for stupidity - but then who amonsgt us has not done stupid things whilst drunk - that we'd never dream of doing if it wasn't for alcohol being in control - and therefore expect some leniency. If he has any conscience the crash will haunt McCormick for the rest of his life - at least the kids are in peace.
Swindon fan in peace, this has bothered me since ive heard about this. I have to admit that im in 2 minds i can see the argument for and against. Against, is the fact that it will tarnish the reputation of the club, and we just won family club of the year, it will also bring about much abuse from oppoisition fans, (that could be good in a sense, might bring out the siege mentality in our team) it could also split the dressing room and at the moment there is a united dressing room here. As someone else has pointed out his career is being a footballer , thats his job and he should be able to continue his chosen career, if he had been a buyer in the city , earning hundreds of thousands a year, he would have been able to go back to his career. I lost my first wife through a accident a long time ago, left with a 3 year old to bring up on my own, i forgave the person invovled . The thing is how many on here have had a drink and then drove , maybe not recently, but it was common practice 20 years ago, or say answered your mobile while driving which is as just as dangerous as drinking, we all do stupid and daft things , but some of us are unlucky and cause the death of an innocent.
The way I see it is that a sentence was given for his crimes and he has learnt his lesson; if the family affected are able to forgive him than we have no right to wage hate on him.
