    Thoughts?

Tevez should get a ban for provoking him.

I find it ridiculous that the provoker of violence doesn't get punished, where as the person who commits violence gets a harsh punishment.

75k will be **** all to Barton, 1 weeks wages, so no I don't think that's harsh.

12 games? hmmm, that little kick on aguero probably cost him 9 games.

If he'd just walked off after elbowing Tevez, he'd probably just get 3 games after his red. But that extra dig cost him a lot.

At the end of the day, I kind of feel sorry for him that players are beating the **** out of him on the pitch to get him to react, but his actions have lead to it, so it's his own fault.

I personally don't give a **** about Barton anymore. I'll always respect him for the work he did at NUFC, and he was a good bloke here, but he just can't keep his gob shut and lets people get to him and lashes out.

He's not an evil bloke, but he's just not right in the head.

I feel sorry for him. I think he should quit football, take his money, enjoy his life with his family with his cash, have a few kids and just be a part of football as a fan, not a player.

I know there are people here who will disagree with me, but think he's lucky not to face more, maybe about 15 or 16.

Barton may have been stupid, but certainly not violent. Players in the past have suffered far lesser punishments for 'tackles' that have ended an opponent's career. Both Tevez and Aguero went down as if they had been shot. And Barton didn't even touch Kompany.

He is being punished for his 'previous' and the fact the game against Man City was so high profile. In fact, the FA mentioned the latter point in their press statement, even though it should be totally irrelevant in a disciplinary case.

I feel that the FA have pandered to the general hysteria now surrounding any on-field incident involving Barton. If future disciplinary cases are judged on the same basis, we should expect 10 game bans for many sendings off. It won't happen, though.

I would consider it fair if they'd taken action against Tevez. Sly bastard.

Disagree. It was three separate cases of violent conduct - the elbow, the kick and the attempted headbutt. Each would be a red card, and as it would be his second of the season, a four game ban. 3 x 4 = 12, so a 12 game ban is logical.

TBH, what he did to Aguero was nothing less than assault, so he should just be glad the police aren't involved imo.

Sorry but I think the world has gone far too pussy. Aguero's reactions made it seem far worse than it was.

If a bloke kicked me in the thigh, I wouldn't go crying to the police, pressing charges. I'd sort it out myself.

"Assault" is a pathetic word thrown around far too much. I know you may disagree and say "oh so you'd be ok with someone punching you in the face".

I don't think it's right, but at the same time, I think instead of running to the authorities every times you've been mistreated, you should try and sort it out for yourself.

If someone is harasssing you and you don't have the power to do anything about it then fair enough, but "assault" for getting kicked in the leg is a bit much.

I've seen much worse back in my highschool days in the playground, and in the bus parking area after a gig. But no one cries and presses charges. Then again nothing is on camera.

    meh.

for me personally i think its pathetic by the fa, 12 games... but the only fine him 75,000 what the **** is the point in that...

75,000 is what 4 days pay these days, hit him harder with the money it might sound daft but give him a 500,000-650,000 fine and a 4-6 game ban.

the fa need to remember rooney done the same thing a few months back and they were begging for him not to get banned,

It's harsh I think, as was the case when he played for us his reputation precedes him. DiCanio got 11 games for pushing over a ref, which isn't as bad.

You and I must have a different definition of 'violent', mate. The 'elbow' on Tevez was nothing more than a brush. The 'kick' on Aguero was the sort of thing we used to do as kids in the playground just to throw someone off balance. And as for 'the attempted headbutt', don't make me laugh. If we send off and ban players for every sort of simulated gesture I doubt we will get many games completed.

While everyone homes in on Barton, the real thugs like Van Persie and De Jong seem to get away with murder.

Totally justified. Come on guys, if he wasn't an ex player... would you feel it was unfair? How many times has his been sent off or kicked people? How many times has he been lucky? Barton is a scumbag and I doubt he will ever learn.

Rooney did not do the same thing, Rooney got tackled and kicked out at someone's foot. Barton went after people trying to injure them, especially Kompany. The FA need to sit down withe PFA and do what the NHL does, if someone gets banned their pay goes to charity. It quickly amounts to hundred of thousands of dollars. Some guy gets banned for 20 hockey games for dangerous play? He forfeits 1,2 mio. Now that's consequential. And that is how you stamp something out you don't want in the game.

Honestly if Barton isn't antisocial and yes, a little bit evil then I don't know who is. We all know if Barton didn't have a talent for football he'd be out on the streets somewhere being a full blown criminal, he's a sociopath.

Honestly how long till Barton lashes out at one of our players? You don't think it's going to happen? I mean come on, in the last few years alone he got sent off at Liverpool, slapped Pedersen, has a thing with Gervinho and now this, did I miss anything? And those who are saying he served our club well? Get your blinkers off, he was decent for about 35 games. Before that he was always injured or in jail.

it was 4 games for the elbow, 4 for the kick and 4 for the attempted headbutt. he denied the charge of the headbutt and can still appeal at the risk of a longer ban.
