But Scotland and Trundle could hold the ball up very well.. If were gonna play 1 up top in the premiership then he must be able to hold the ball up, otherwise we can expect constant bombardment in tight situations.
that has been out trouble ....why do we want to have a lone striker to hold the ball up? for who, a lone striker is just that ...a striker that can take on defenders and sneak in the spaces they leave. if he is holding the ball up then he is not doing his job properly...you get in their face and run the defence ragged and let the midfield hold the ball up while the striker looks for the oppertunity to poach a goal.....why do you think i keep saying that danny would make a great midfielder. why do you think our finishing has not been brilliant....its because we dont have the right striker doing a loan strikers job......
Not a hope, Beckford does not have the right mentality to play in this group of players big time charlie.
I would have thought he wouldn't be used as a 1 up front, we've got Luke Moore to deputise that role (sure he'll be bumped down the pecking order again this summer though). If we bought Beckford I'd imagine he would come off the bench as 1 of 2. Or maybe used to replace Sinclair, or even in the 3-4-3 formation Rodgers experimented with as a plan B.
For who? For the midfield and mainly the wingers. He's used to take pressure off the rest of the team etc. you want someone who can take on defenders and score goals. I'll get Augero on the phone right now shall I? Cos that's the type of striker your talking about. Finding that type of striker for a club of our size is being extremely unrealistic. I can't think of one team below Liverpool who has that type of player. Even Liverpool got suarez who can take them on but finishing is poor, Carroll can hold it up but again finishing is poor... Rooney, Augero, tevez, drogba. That's who your describing.
You know what he was known as at Leeds don't you Dai Billy no mates Beckford, apparently very disruptive young man, thought he was better than he actually was. And Brendan said we are an important part of the team us fans, at least i think that's what he said. so brendan if you are reading this don't do it,
i am not interested in his personal life or any other striker as long as they are good at their job as a lone striker then thats all i care about.....If the lone striker is holding the ball up for the midfielders swans-m then that shows he is not doing the job properly....look at a good loan striker he worries the defenders who in turn lets the midfielders through to score while all the time he is there ready to pounce on any mistakes that are made......we dont do that as danny is among our midfielders playing the passing game. i hear he has scored 7 goals in the league the same as a striker worth three times as much but your missing the point there are three or 4 players getting the goals because the loan striker is in the faces of the defenders leaving others to score. danny is a good two man striker and an even better midfielder he is not good at taking on defenders and losing them. like you say he holds the ball up. thats fine if he had a partner up front but not on his own it is not......shearer would pounce on any lose ball and score and another was lineker. they were the best of the best at playing up front on their own....
Right so now your saying you want a shearer or lineker?... Dai I understand what your getting at but you told us yourself that dg hadn't scored enough this season. What you want is someone who is going to bag 15 goals+ and have the ability to take on/lose defenders who are earning 40k+ to stay with their man! Can you at least see my point here? I'm sure we would all love to sign this cheap mystery striker that your talking about but realistically we can't afford it.
Emnes is a good shout, be interesting to see who gets the shout between him and dg... Suppose he would have to pick them on form. Borini is a no hope in hell, hasn't he been called up by Italy for the euros now? Probably worth about 15m given his age.
Not true. He was a well liked member of the team and was instrumental in getting Becchio settled in England. I'd like to see him go to a team like Swansea who I think would suit his playing style and you'd be silly to turn him down for the reasons you stated.
I agree simon, he reminds me of sniffer Clark with you years ago. he could terrorise defenders ragged and any mistake he would be in there like a shot putting the ball into the back of the net. thats what i call a goal getter. and we need that type of striker if we want goals.
Have you actually ever played the game or actually watched a swans game recently? A lone striker is there to bring the other players into the attack, such as the wingers and attacking midfielders, as well as scoring goals!! A striker fulfilling this role is vitally important to the way that we play football, given that the basis of our game is keeping possession! Yes we would all love a Messi that could pick up the ball, run past defenders like they are not there and bury 30+ goals a season but a) we cant afford a player like that and b) Beckford is definitely NOT a player with the skill level to do this otherwise....going out on a huge guess here....everton would have kept him and not farmed him out to Leicester and Weeds wouldnt be the only other club linked to him Best case scenario is that he does as you think we need (run past defenders and score) at best 1 out of 5 runs...meaning the other 4 times we have given the ball to the opposition cheaply and inviting them to attack.....a philosophy this club has avoided for the last couple of years
With Roma's manager going a cheeky loan bid could actually be a possibility if he doesn't fit into the new managers plans.......assuming its not going to be Brendan
