Hi luvgonzo.......so you won a cup but not much else this year........mid table and managerless........and even worse below the blue half of the city. We've been playing kamikaze type league football......Championship to the edge of the Conference in consecutive seasons.....plus a little side issue of administration as well. So your problems would be a success story for us. So who is going to be your new manager then.......a lot of names being mentioned but do they really know what they would be walking into.
More than we won Plym! At least we survived the admin and even better stayed up. Now we should be play offs or top ten at least next year, then move on slowly from there, i will be happy with that, I hear the season ticket sales are going to be good for next season already. If i can find the time each week i will indulge in one also. As last season it was very difficult for me to attend many games, Hope fully now things are getting slowly better. I can! How is the wife Plym? hope your not walking her to far?
Hello luvgonzo and welcome .... you timed it just right visiting now, the traffic jams created by the torch relay have finally gone ! Evening Plym and Joe
Our most recent experiences of people from Liverpool popping into our board hasn't been the best experience so I hope it is a friendly visit this time. This has been one of the worst ever times for this club and in a similar vein it must have been one of the worst for your's as well for a very long time. Bit different struggling to stay in the football league than being in the prem and finishing where you did but failure is relative to expectations in this case. What has happened to Liverpool? Can't compete with the big money clubs anymore is the way I see it in simplistic terms and with the money floating about with the richest not likely to compete anytime soon either it seems. Come and support real football again in the lower reaches you might enjoy it if you try it.
Hello all, this is a friendly visit I did this last year and it was good fun, It's good to have a chat with some different fans. I'm well happy with our cup win, pity it wasn't a double though. I haven't a clue who the new manager will be but if I had to pick I'd go for AVB. Is your club safe now with all the administration problems?
Surviving administration is a bit like recovering from alcoholism - one day at a time. I see on another Argyle board that fans [or one anyway] are demanding the signing of a proven 20+ goal a season striker. We'd all like one of those but even in this league, relatively speaking, that costs a lot of money, even if you could find one. I'm rather surprised Dalglish has gone - the likes of Carroll & Henderson who haven't lived up to the hype would have been bought by Comolli wouldn't they? AVB also seems a strange choice after the debacle at Chelsea. Is the idea to clean out older, established and perhaps over-influential players? That seems to be what he had in mind at Chelsea but failed to put anything workable in their place. Not the best advert I'd have thought!
As a Wolves fan, i understand where you are at the moment. We went down all the way like you. was hours from going out of business. A ground which was sold. Only enough pro players to field the starting 11 and at that time I was just starting secondary school in Torquay so had grief from all the kids who supported virtually every other team in the league. I can always remember Plymouth being the bigger of the Devon teams and its always painful to switch places, but this is something that hopefully you will get through and become stronger, for us it took a new manager who happened to bring in a few good players, Steve Bull being one of them and our fortunes changed. All the best in sorting out your finances and getting back up a division or two.
I would hope that we give him the time and support he needs to put his ideas in place, before Chelsea he had a very good record from his first season at Porto winning every single trophy available and only 3 draws and 0 lost in the league. It seems that everyone we are linked with has some kind of risk though.
AVB will be a total disaster has manager of Liverpool..........did he not bring Chelski to their knees by refusing to play the experienced older pros....for whatever reason it failed miserably.........He was younger than most of them to start with.......and was completely out of his depth. If Dalglish wasn't up to it second time around....AVB would have trouble with the... tea lady....... let alone the older experienced players and the Kop would have him for breakfast..........but of course those useless American owners would be stupid enough to try him......Everton would be rubbing their hands together with glee and looking foreward to next season.
Hello luvgonzo, good to see you again, are you touring all the boards, you are welcome on the Gillingham one, I don't think AVB would be good for Liverpool, my money is on Paul Lambert but I doubt it, I put it on as it was 33/1, but I think he has done so well at Norwich it would be sad for him to leave I think your best option would be Fabio Capello possibly, I would not be surprised if he got the job or Roberto Martinez.
Yes mate I'm doing all the boards, will get to Gillingham soon. I don't want Capello couldn't stand looking at the miserable get! Talk of Van Gaal as DoF and Rijkaard as manager at the moment but it's all media crap. I'll support whoever gets the job.
It's always a lottery with any Manager isn't it. One can do a fantastic job here or there and then fail miserably at the next one. The biggest problem any Manager faces in the prem these days is player power where sometimes they are bigger than he is or the club they think. It's part of the reason I don't have much interest in the top flight. The truth is that Liverpool cannot compete financially with a number of other clubs now. They are big in terms of success historically but I fear you are not going to be up there competing fully for the foreseeable future. Just an opinion of course but you need an Oil Sheik. As for who should be the next Manager well, I'm not sure it makes that much difference given the opinion I have just given. Nobody is going to turn Liverpool into the next Champions with the financial clout you have.
They don't want a sheikh Sensible, they and the rest of football want the sheikhs and robber barons who are already here stopped from buying success. Mentioning no names Chelsea & Man City! Then clubs like Liverpool & Arsenal can start competing at the top again on a level playing field and sounder financial management can start to trickle down to prevent wannabe clubs going bust. Mentioning no names PAFC!
