Fair point but you obviously missed AC 4-0 Steaua, Barca UNited, or even Pool Milan, which was incredibly one sided bar 6 mins!
I agree we could've gone at them a little more but it doesn't suit our players and it certainly is not 'anti football'.
I'm not sure what anti-football is. I know what tippy tappy, make 50 passes then lose the ball in the centre circle, hollywood style prima donna rubbish is. Barcelona play it very well - Everyone else fails at it. Well done chelsea - A tremendous victory for english style football.
Saturday night had to be one of the most interesting and entertaining finals in a long time. I honestly do not know what some people were watching. It was a fantastic advert for football. There was no anti football played by either side. Bayern played in their typcial economic fashion, and Chelsea played intelligent passing counter attack football. This desire to see all styles of football except Barca's is getting beyond a ****ing joke. Defending is part of the game too. If all people are intersted in is watching short passing and tricks, go watch ****ing beach football! People saying Chelsea ruined it with their style of play are just idiots to be honest. The game is a lot more intricate than just one style of play. Sure watching Big Sams or Pulis hoofball is horrible to watch and not really what the game was meant to be about. But it was nowhere near that ugly. People just don't seem to be able to appreciate all facets of the game now. Look at the defensive systems developed by the likes of Arsenal under Graham, AC Milan at their peak, or the Catenaccio system the italians developed all those years ago. These were brilliant set ups developed from the core aspects of football. All three involved the game still be playing the correct way on the deck. They just put more focus on defence. They deserve just as much appreciation as Barcas style or the total football that the dutch developed. It takes all sorts basically and people could do with doing a bit more study on the history of football to fully appreciate its diversity in tactical solutions.
They didn't ruin it at all, it was an enjoyable game of football in my opinion. Okay so Chelsea had less chances and possession than Bayern. Don't forget this was an away game for Chelsea playing Bayern on their own patch and they played it like so, absorbing pressure and going for the counterattacks. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. If we played like that and won a cup final I doubt you'd be complaining. Your argument about English teams doesn't hold water with me because quite frankly I couldn't give a flying **** either way if English teams do well or not if they're not NUFC. Also, a penalty shootout is dictated by luck about as much as the preceding 120 minutes. Uniformly the team with the most bottle and that takes the best penalties wins. Bayern showed no composure or bottle all night, Chelsea did.
I've read all these very well presented opinions as well and I would to say to Steve, Warm Pouch and Tino thank you! Its nice when we Blues are basking in the wonderful glow of our success that non-blues are so kind kind as to post such freindly articles! Bless 'em all!!
