It isn't just a localised thing, racism is a shared problem and we should all work together to eliminate it.

Fans work best when they're self-policed. If you think what someone next to you is saying is disagreeable, tell them about it. The club and Police always have to 'make an example' of people who get reported, so chances are the bloke will get banned for at least a season, which would be a massively heavy-handed response to a couple of throwaway racist heckles that most footballers have heard a million times before.

When I was at the Albion away game (1st game in the championship) some lads behind me were calling geremi a black bastard. I was with a black lad he turned around laughed and he said your right he is a black bastard. No harm done there's no malice in it as half our team are African

Best way to be too. Don't let them think they're smart by trying to put people down because of the colour of their skin. It isn't clever, it isn't funny, and it isn't acceptable.

Whilst its not nice, I do believe people just say it as an insult for people. Chanting racism would be too far IMO but not petty remarks.

Everyone on here discriminates in some form, you know you do. I had to take a course on discrimination through my line of work and was shocked at the things you can get done for. Think this country needs to man up. Free speech is none existent. I bet black people make remarks about whites and make other discriminatory remarks about people.

I don't know how many times I've heard petty remarks like those mentioned at matches and even from close groups of friends, none of you ever recieved and laughed at a racist joke? If it gets really abusive then yes, but not petty things, please.

If you don't want to report him, then tell him to shut the #### up with that racist **** - - I'd suggest those words.

It's amazing the effect that has. Most people will only shout what they think the people around them will approve of. Without wanting to make you feel bad or anything, every time he's shouted it and you've not said anything, you've made him think you thin it's fine.

    Isn't "Pienar you black ****" abusive ?

If it isn't, then I must be unclear on the menaing of some of the words involved, or the meaning of the word "abuse"

It all depends on the tone etc... People will pick anything about a person to have a go at.

You've never called someone ginger? You've never laughed at a racist joke? I think Tash was right not to report him, quite simply because we're all drunken maniacs at football and do things we regret. I do think it depends on the way he was saying it.

I don't quite know you can shout out that someone is a black **** in a non-offensive tone.

And if you're asking whether I have been perfect my whole life, of course not. I have said all sorts of things in my life that I am ashamed of. I really don't see that as a reason not to object to someone saying something that they should be ashamed of.

As for the drunken maniac bit, I agree that is a reason not to immediately report someone, but you should still tell them to shut up that ****

We've reported someone who sits behind us for racism. It was hard because he'll know it's us, as we challenged him during the game, but hopefully he'll be moved or banned before next season.

All the people around us (who have sat with us in same spot for 18 odd years) agreed it was getting beyond a joke, and his reaction to us challenging him was to threaten us - so that made our mind up. Nasty **** he is.
