    maybe

that and the fact that ggow is the 3rd biggest city in scotland and there is a big populace - no doubt both supports have religious roots - not sure thats the same as bigotry though

and the point about the signings policy isnt really valid medro - celtic were set up by an rc but very quickly became open to all - rangers were open to all and yet, for a period, became open only to some

    its done and dusted now

That's right sectarianism in Glasgow was started by the Prods.

I'm sure it went both ways back then as it does now.

Great Britain as a whole was a Bigoted Island, resulting in the banning of Catholicism by QE1. 90% of the population were Protestant at the demand of the Queen. So i would think that the majority saw Catholics as outlaws and against the crown (sound familiar?) so when more and more came from Ireland, then it was against the normal way of doing things, even tho Catholicism was no longer outlawed, it was still not as openly practiced as it is today, and was still frowned upon my the majority.

No it was not the Protestants fault that Sectarianism started in Glasgow, it was the in grained teachings passed down from the days when being a Catholic was looked upon the same as devil worship.

Pretty naive of you to think that hatred only went one way.

You are of course aware back then that there were Irish Catholics that despised the British & Protestants.

the majority of irish arriving in the west of scotland away back then couldn't speak english, so factories and works in and around glasgow put up notices saying "no irish" or "no catholics" (both notices meant the same thing - they didn't want folk who couldn't speak english)

unfortunately through the years, bigots have twisted this fact into some sort of sectarian campaign against catholics and most catholics in the west of scotland now have it ingrained into them from birth (through family, school and church) that they were victimised in scotland because of their religion.

the result of these teachings now means that the current celtic support is the most bitter, bigoted and sectarian of all football fans past or present from either set of fans.
you just need to look at the rantings on here from folk who hate rangers more than they care about celtic.
it's not football banter anymore. it's downright bitter bigoted hatred of rangers and all things not celtic minded.

Yes i am fully aware of that, but are you trying to tell me that protestant Scotland in the late 19th Century welcomed Irish Catholics with open arms??

Back then, Irish Catholics, or even Catholics in general were the minority group in Scotland. They were treated as such by the majority. I for one hope to see an end to all the bullshit (both sides) in my lifetime, but sadly....it will never happen!!

Sad to say that religion (belief in something no one can prove) will be the end of us all...

And yet your on here to spout your ****e about Celtic fans. How recently were you lot still LEGALLY singing about up to your knees in blood? or No Pope of Rome etc etc... Yes Celtic have this problem element also, but for you to compare how bad we are when you cant even accept you have a problem is ******ed.

So is it ok for me to post a job ad with the footnote : No Muslims?

No Catholics meant exactly that...Accept it and move on ffs

I love the old "youse are more bigoted that we are" argument.

Some **** should build a bigot-o-meter, sell it to Old Firm fans and make a ****ing fortune.

Aye, but there are loads more ****wits on here these days. Plus once the actual football is over with they descend into the religious ****e because they've got **** all else going on.

These are the sorts of morons who worship a **** in a dress that's never had a ride or some fanny on a white horse that died a few hundred years ago.....
